They should use the old station across the river which is now a fans museum, so that any mags arriving into Sunderland get to see how class we are
The Grade II* listed building that can't really have much done to it?

Good timing and relief. No man, before then.
Someone on here was saying it was going to be open ready for xmas 2019
And even then, theres several months of work needed to make it into a bar. So if it was happening, they could be on sorting it out.
Could build the new station around itThe Grade II* listed building that can't really have much done to it?
Reading between the lines, it looks like the Littlewoods/Poundland building will be coming down.
Eyesore is generous.Good, it’s an absolute eyesore of a building. Maybe they can do something with the old JJB sports building at the same time?

Looks like the poundland building is going to be knocked down
""This new northern entrance will sit in a new public square, delivering an impressive arrival point in the Central Business District of Riverside Sunderland and will be framed by the beautiful Elephant Tearooms and Mackie’s Corner that are springing back to life.”"

Nowhere near.Must be one of the least used in the country
What has changed in the council, seems we have ambitious enablers there vs barriers? Dont know local politics but this cant be coincidence. The £26m just for the station entrance and building? If that's right then it's great news. Plans for North entrance to be developed too! Don't mind each section done in stages if it mean higher quality in the long term.
Also first time I've seen 4 platforms mentioned officially. Also good.
Certainly sounds like the ambition is there this time and not just a quick face lift.

Oh aye, the existing enterprise rental garage that used to be a petrol station is really pleasing to the eye. It's one of the few decent buildings in Sunderland that's pleasing on the eye, the last thing it needs is spoiling with a new build next to it.
You can’t get a train to anywhere, maybe a metro to NewcastleMust be one of the least used in the country
I got a direct train from KX after the play off final in 2019.Oh aye, the existing enterprise rental garage that used to be a petrol station is really pleasing to the eye.

If they can get the funds for infastructure then operators will use it imo. Many of those in our city and surronding areas forced to go north of south. Having real options to travel to and from our city, linking it properly with ECM can only be a good thing for all IMO.Foresee the issuing being the council / network rail getting money to fund the below ground works from central government. Also would rail operators be attracted to running more services?
Make a killing next to a functional railway station serving proper routes. Also down the road from new homes and the business district and just over bridge from the SOL after games.I believe that's been bought and there's plans to turn it into a 3 floor pub/restaurant/club.
Take the JJB cladding off and its a nice old building. Will need a lot spending on it but if they start it'll be great once done. Just look at the old frontage on the side street for possible potential. Mackies corner too. Could all come together if we make most of the older buildings we have left.Eyesore is generous.
It's the most embarrassing thing about our city IMO
