Dunno if he had owt ot do with them, but there were a bunch of boro lads in West London in the late 80's and they caused a shit load of bother in the pubs around Hammersmith at the time. I had just met my missus and was in one of them when it went off. The usual bottles and glasses flying around and windows put in etc. It was rumoured the locals had had enough and found out where the fuckers were lodging and were going to go and do them some serious mischief. Don't know if it happened but they did seem to move on all of a sudden.

Thursday night ( a think) Ajax attacked some Sunderland in the grasshopper, they came from all 3 directions so Sunderland had to stand and fight back as there was nowhere to go, held there own by all accounts, plus considering there wasn't many of them there was pretty good.
The Saturday was when Ajax were roaming around in groups and some safc got into a scrap with Dutch undercover coppers, who to be fair looked like a bunch wanting a fight.

Is the correct answer. You hardly need to be a genius to work out that there was every likelyhood that the locals would tag along. As for weapons etc are there actual rules of engagement for such things?

What happened to DF was terrible and i know he deeply regrets attending.

Vandalising The Porthole and smacking the locals wasn't Sunderlands finest moment either.

All the lads I know regret going, as for rules of engagement, yes there were supposed to be that day it was agreed no weapons.

I was there, in the Spurs seats, with my Cockney father-in-law who hadn't been to WHL since the late 1960's. I'd taken him down from Mansfield and told him what good fans Sunderland had but there were little fights all up the road before and after the match.

IIRC Spurs needed to win for promotion and we won 3-2 with Bob Lee playing his best ever game for us. We'd watched Spurs get a lucky 3-3 at Mansfield that year with Hoddle playing for them.

i will accept your apology this time :) i wasnt having a dig but a larf, if it offended then accept my apologies :) it appears we have both been through what I would consider to be the best times for going to football scary and hairy though it was sometimes. remember that spurs win vividly, we played with no pressure that day.

What about Brighton away late 70's? they charged into our end just after kick off, we only had a few hundred there and their mob took a right pasting and retreated rather quickly, I was standing around the top of the entrance and was grabbed by one of theirs and fell down the terracing while hanging onto this brighton nutter, he took a pounding from flying boots around us , they all legged it rather quickly :)

Remember GE from school but he was older than me but if I remember right he was soft as shite just a hanger on with the hard lads.

I wasn't really in that group of lads but me mate was so I drank with them sometimes

aye that was interesting. we left the escort in hull and ended up on the next train so we arrived at doncaster after it had initially kicked off. i was greeted by some disgusting little man asking who i was. smack bang wallop its gone off again and hes legging it across the platform with his mates.
i ended up hiding in some sort of cupboard after the police dragged me off the train. managed to sneak out of the cupboard and onto a train to durham luckily
