Despite some negativity abiove I thought there were some impressive performances. Watson looks a real prospect as does Burke. They are only 16 and 17 and stood out for me. Newall at LB was good throughout the game. The big problem was that our CF, Gardiner, was barely in the game - he lacks strength and could never hold the ball. Spellman was disappointing as well. Overall, there was little between the teams but it was good to see youngsters coming through finally after a few years of picking up other's cast offs as a result of Stewart Donald's policy of selling off our talent.
Must be. Just feels like I’ve seen his name once all seasonLast played Oct 3rd, must be injured

Yes, he did. He looked like a football player. Positive and good running with the ball. Just checked and he's 17. Some of the Wolves (and Sunlun) players will be 21 so for 16 and 17 year olds to look good against them is a really good sign. Whereas Sohna is 20 and he looked just ok, neat and tidy but little else. I hope in the next few years our U21's will be full of our home grown players.Agree with most of this, though Middlemis was similarly decent when he came on not sure of his age.

I think he'll go on to play league footballSohna will never make it.
Matheson is an interesting one, still only 20 went at a young age. £1m+, had 4 loans and mainly unsuccessful from what I've read.I think he'll go on to play league football
I thought the lads played well yesterday. The young lads stepping up from the u18s coped well with the challenge.
It would have been a great experience for Watson playing against their lad Matheson who will have the best part of 100 senior games behind him.
I'd like to see a few of our lads go on loan now. The likes of Sohna, Newall, Kelly and Carney. I think they've had enough u21 football now and need to kick on with their careers
He looked solid enough but not stand out. Don't think he'll be anymore than a lower league playerMatheson is an interesting one, still only 20 went at a young age. £1m+, had 4 loans and mainly unsuccessful from what I've read.
Wouldn't surprise me if Rochdale wanted him to go for the fee obviously and he would have got a great contract at Wolves. But career wise..will he suffer long term? How did he play?
Be good to see more u18s push up to u21s. As some say there is some talented lads in the u18sYou must be logged on to see external links
Agree mate, but it is a big ask physically for them (for obvious reasons)Be good to see more u18s push up to u21s. As some say there is some talented lads in the u18s
Agree mate 100 per cent,we have some really good 16/17/18 year olds a frame work of older fringies would help both .Is that Watson just 16 if so looked really goodYou must be logged on to see external links
I think senior players should step down and get minutes for the u21s. I know some have been critical that it's a pathway blocker buy I don't see it that way.
For me it gets valuable minutes into 1st team squad players legs. Also it can only aide the u21 players playing alongside them by having someone with more experience to learn from.
It's also a good way to get the young foreign lads a taste of English football
Thoughts???
100% this.If used properly it would take the issue of buying in fillers who will never play 1st team football, and integrate promising young players both on and off the pitch. Like reserve football used to be like.
That's it, at the time sell you're most promising youngsters and you leave yourself short. End of the day it's not about winning PL2 or 18s league /Cup it's about developing 1st team footballers whether it's here or to sell on.I'm hoping the days of bringing in a bunch of u21 squad fillers are gone, With the decent u18s making the step up.
I don't mind trying to catch some players released from clubs only though if they have a chance here
