Styles

He states himself that he prefers being in the middle of the park.
Drop Ekwah for once, Neil in front of the back 4 and Styles in the no.8. Jobe needs dropping too so Riggsy at no.10.
It's easy this managing malarkey is!

Can't judge him off yesterday. Like many others he looked last in the initial system then he's asked for play right wing.

Looks like he has decent feet and wants to play a first time pass. Would like to see him tried alongside Neil.

As a Barnsley fan I've been reading the Styles thread with interest.

Styles was initially signed as a central midfielder, and put in some excellent displays there in 19/20 when we avoided relegation in the last minute of the season. During the next season when we finished 5th in the Champ under Valerian Ismael, he looked like the real deal at left back. Combative in defence, creative going forward and scored a few cracking goals. I genuinely thought he'd soon be a Premier League regular, whether we went up or not. Would have probably valued him at £6 million+ at this point.

The next season we all expected Styles and Barnsley to kick on, but for many reasons the team completely underperformed and we were relegated with 6 wins. Styles had been moved to central midfield where we expected him to take the division by storm. He didn't. A lot of it wasn't his fault with horrendous coaching, other upheaval behind the scenes and Carlton Morris being out injured for a huge chunk of the season. But in any case he was clearly playing at a fraction of his true ability.

Last season was spent on loan at Millwall. By all accounts he did well at left back before getting injured. Returned to Oakwell unexpectedly this summer. Again we expected him to take the division by storm, especially considering we're now in League 1. Again it didn't happen.

He's been in and out of our side, both on the left side and in central midfield. Has looked very good some games, anonymous in others. Since Luca Connell returned to the side, this has led to a huge uptick in the form of Herbie Kane and Adam Phillips. There's absolutely no way Styles would get in our midfield right now. Left back - Nicky Cadden is a better crosser, striker of a ball and defender.

Styles has obvious talent. He looks comfortable in Hungary's midfield at international level. He should look comfortably the best player in League 1 no matter what position he plays in, but the truth is he doesn't, and I really don't understand it. I don't subscribe to the often touted theory that he's "lazy". You don't make it as a professional footballer by being lazy and by all accounts his attitude in training and off the field in general is first class.

I genuinely hope that he goes on to fulfill his potential with you. It would be a winning situation for everyone. Styles gets his big move, SAFC get an excellent player, and we get a couple of million to go towards strengthening next season. I just don't know whether it'll happen.

He wasn’t the only poor player the formation was shite and it killed us probably playing jobe as a striker was a bad decision from Dodds

Play him in midfield. Technically good on the ball and a decent passer.

Can’t tackle at all, keep him away from the full back/wing back role.

I doubt you'll be getting a couple of million. Speakman will find a 17-year-old from Uzbekistan on a free.

Looked like a good technical player with no clue if he should be pushing up or tracking back. It was the tactics that where wrong. I think we have a good player on our hands.

He always has been a central “number 8” type midfielder and has only ever filled in at wing back, so to throw him in, not in his “natural” position in a system that every other player was so unfamiliar with, was total suicide.
Agree, total stupid formation and selections, fancy playing terribly out of form Ba on the left wing and leave a specialist in that position on the bench. Pathetic choices by the so called coaches
