Stuff the World Cup

More teams than ever before,. but fewer supporters want to travel there to watch them. Should have given it to Canada..we've only got a few stadiums suitable with natural grass, the northern Europe teams could play on the ice ..lots of hockey rinks around.
Imagine the scenes if the sweaties have a few drams too many and they send in ICE. Absolute scenes!

For me the principle of the world cup has been somewhat lost.

Was always about the best players from around the globe coming together to see which country was the best team in the world.

Now most of the players play in European competitions anyway, there's no real mystique in the different styles of play and cultures around the teams as they're not always made up of players from that country or culture. There'll be a lot more than 26 Englishmen in action at this world cup. Nationality is now more fluid than it ever was. Not a problem with that but kind of dilutes it as a concept for me. Don't even mention foreign coaches.

And nowadays international football isn't the highest standard competition in world football. That's the ECL.

then add in it's in the land of the free (as long as you have enough money) and two other countries and it just starts to feel like a vehicle for making money rather than a pure sporting contest it was always supposed to be.

I lost interest as soon as it was announced as the USA as a) the fans are crap b) crap time zone.

Itll be piss poor and what with Trump pissing off pretty much the whole world and tickets being ridiculous prices I think its going to be an embarrassing display of empty seats.

Can see this not going ahead if the shortage of airline fuel comes to fruition, lot of teams unable to get there , no fans either from a lot of countries.
Could be delayed it till next summer
No way. If 7,000 Boro fans can visit Blackburn on a midweek night, all bets are off. The World Cup will go ahead, 100,000 Jocks will party, party, and the 'cost of living crisis' will be on the back burner. Prices will rocket, fans will foot the bill and the global game will go from strength to strength.

Don't worry ... it will sell out.

Look forward to the Euros far more than the World Cup these days.

Russia 2018, Qatar 2022 (in Winter), United States 2026, Three continents 2030 to make for... Saudi 2034. It's just an absolute disgrace.

At least the Euros is generally one place (two max excluding 2020), not problematic countries and generally a better quality of football.

This is another event to try to promote Football or "Soccer" in the USA . I cant afford to go but if I could I would only go to Mexico or Canada in protest at the way the USA is consistently slagging off the UK.

Plus its taking place in the land of pedophiles
Hey now, y'all have your fair share too, we just don't hold ours accountable. Also, agreed - FIFA is the worst... Russia, Qatar, and the US. Corruption runs deep. I won't be going (not that I could afford to) and probably will only watch SAFC players and the odd USMNT game.

If it’s on, might watch. If it’s not on, not missing nowt! Very difficult to get up for this shitshow!
