Steven Spielberg's worst films

Hook is probably his weakest.
Amazed The Lost World is mentioned in the opening post though, it's got some brilliantly directed sequences in it.

I don't know why hook gets such a slagging, I actually liked it as a kid.

1941 has got to be up there as one of his worst. Funny story about that I saw once on the extras of a DVD.

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were drinking in a studio late one night lamenting how bad both their movies were going. Spielberg had just had Close Encounters of the Third Kind come out to great success and Jaws before that but he was struggling to get 1941 up and going with script re-writes etc. Meanwhile George had a movie in the can but was having a nightmare in the editing studio getting it finished.

Anyway George said to Steven I'll do you a deal, we swap 1% of our stakes in our next movies thinking Steven would have another great success.

1941 flopped and Steven Spielberg made a lot of money off Star Wars.

Oooooh look what's on BBC iPlayer

The scene where he punches the bloke and goes "No Ticket" is class

1941 is a class film. Love it, I do.
I enjoyed that. Actually only watched it again last weekend.

anyway his worst film by far is that piece of shit A.I. Artificial Intelligence.

In fairness, did he not just add the finishing touches to A.I.? Wasn't it someone else's film who died part-way through making it?

I watched close encounters as a kid and then never watched it again. I can barely remember it. Is it really that good?

The acting is immense. Effects are very dated as you might expect but it's still worth a rewatch periodically.

Am I just remembering it wrong. I thought it was alright for a peter pan story.

Part of the thing for me is that I'm not a big fan of the Peter Pan story in the first place. The whole Peter Pan/Peter Sensible-Adultbloke thing is a nice idea but that doesn't really go anywhere after the start.

I suppose liking the original story helps.

The one that immediately sprang to my mind was A.I.
I cant think of anything good to say about it other than it finished and I don't have to sit through it again.

I think he's totally overrated.
The only film he's done that's a nailed on masterpiece is Schindlers List

A few more are canny like the first Indiana

Loads are shite.

Better than Lucas mind!
The first 'Indiana' is correctly referred to as Raiders. Balls to all this renaming revisionism. First Star Wars is just Star Wars anarl.
