it’s a rapidly changing situation though and I wouldn’t rule anything out yet
it’s difficult for the players too, they will essentially have to isolate before they board that plane as this new version spreads across the country, any test near the flight date and they ain’t going
I thought England were really poor not playing that South Africa game, as it set such a low bar, hopefully they can get out of the country ok

Looking at bowling, I think Buttler has to bat 6, but it makes the tail long.
Wood, Bess and Leach have to play. You can’t play Broad and Anderson surely, that’s Bess at 7 and Wood at 8. So Woakes or Curran with Broad or Jimmy playing one test each?
edit: I guess Modern provides balance, but would be harsh on Leach or Bess

Bess hasn’t done much recently so I think ‘harsh’ is being generous to him.
Leach is by far our best spinner imo and should be the first pick, toss of a coin as to who gets the other spot.
Had a poor summer, but it wasn’t helpful conditions

The seam bowling all rounder slot is another interesting one. I like Woakes, always have but never been convinced when it’s doing nowt for the seamers. Curran has a “knack” of picking wickets up

Wont happen but I'd bat Buttler at 6 and have Foakes at 7 keeping.
Bess probably deserves a go in Sri Lanka in conditions which should suit him more. If hes not up to it I'd have no issue leaving him at home for the India series.

Yeah true. Anderson & Curran were the quicks we played last time and they were barely used. We did have Stokes mind who was excellent - balance is gone when he isnt there
Its the batting thats light in the squad, there simply isn't enough batsman, I am perplexed by it. Buttler now has to play 6 and if any batsman gets injured we are now moving batsman way out of position

From the squad they have picked, it only works if Ali and Curran both play.
BTW, I know there are mental pressures, but I think Sri Lanka a pretty good place to be right now, barely any cases been had there, they get to quarantine in a lush place, if I have read correctly.

Unfair not to play Bess imo. Deserves a go in these conditions and I'm not his biggest fan. I like Ali and he did well there last time but we are gambling on him finding some form. Do we know if Rashid was considered or did he not make himself available?
