Sri Lanka tour

Oh fair enough, didn't realise. And yeah Jennings my preferred choice, he is an opener and has 100s in India and Sri Lanka.

I like Jennings in Asia like, always campaigned for him, but Bairstow can play 3 or 5, he scored a 100 in his last test in Sri Lanka, and average 44 on the last tour of India. Bairstow scored a 100 in Oz too which is the next tour, so it makes sense to pick someone who could stay in the team if he performs well.

No brainer for me

I have major doubts about Burns long term, especially in Oz, he averages 32, and I think he has gone under the radar. Some top talent coming through, and Root and Smith are backing them. Burns needs to step up a bit.

My point being, opening with Crawley here now he has settled is a good idea as he could possinly play in all conditions, picking Jennings is very short termist, and India won't be preparing turners with their seamers.

Pleased Ali gets another chance, I thik he just about done now, but he was messed about and has been a class player for England, an absolute match winner and underated bowler, give him a shot to see if anything left in the tank.

My only issue is the fast bowling, we don't need Broad, Anderson, Curran and Woakes all there

its 2 tests on spinning pitches.

Pleased Bairstow back as despite recent test form he has something to offer.

As for Jennings big no for me, just not a test player, sure he has decent record in Asia, but even if he did well, surely you could not have him for our summer and definitely not in the Ashes down there.

I know you can pick specialist bowlers for sub-continental conditions i.e more spinners, but would not go down the line of picking specialist opening batsman for them conditions just complicates it too much.

I don't think there is much wrong for picking certain players for certain conditions. I'd have taken Jennings but he wouldn't play at home or in Aus. They do it with other players, Wood could be player of the series in SL and India and probably wouldn't play a test at home. Jennings was also a bit of a specialist at short leg obviously can't get selected for that alone but useful to have on flat pitches where you need to take any chance you can

He's faded badly though and has absolutely no form

You still need that to perform, not sure he is up to it

Bairstow is a much better player of spin than him anyway

Explain that rationally?

Jennings averages more in Asia and also had a ton in two countries. In less than half the innings

Is Bairstow a better test cricketer than jennings. Without a f***ing doubt.

Is Bairstow is more deserving.
as specialist batsmen. Not a chance.

He's a number 7 who should have never been moved from his position and has absolutely no right to be in the squad. Foakes shouldn't be there if
Bairstow is in contention. He shouldn't be replacing anyone else in the squad.

Eh? I am not following the logic here, Bairstow is a better test cricketer than Jennings in every possible way.

He bats at 3 in Sri Lanka, the same position he made a 100 in his last game there.

Whats the issue? Bizarre.

In case you hadn't noticed 3 of our settled top 6 can't play in this series mate, thats why he has been called up.

The irrationality Bairstow stirs up in people is canny mad, is it because he is ginger? It's not a remotely controversial pick like.

You said he was a better player of spin

You've not said anything there to back that up?

Jennings is surely like for like with burns?

Keeps Crawley at number 3

Yeah he is. He's jsut a better test cricketer and an obvious pick.

Not sure why you are so outraged

Maybe with a strict quarantine period- New Zealand let Pakistan in

This new strain stuff though.
Jacques Kallis named England batting consultant

Like that
Also just noticed how few batsman in the squad?

really not many options just with 1 injury

yet we have Broad, Anderson, Wood, Woakes, Curran all there for 2 test match series in spinning conditions

Smith does this a lot, always light in the batting, remember when we had to recall Jennings in the Windies as nobody else was there?

Its almost like he just doesnt want to upset any of the bowlers so picks them all

Smith seems to love all rounders so i wouldnt be suprised if Woakes or Curran are picked mainly in the middle order

Hope we are moving away from that, it doesnt work, the way we have played this year is the way, a top 6 of our best batsman

Even if it does go ahead it might not even be on TV here looking at that
