Sporting Director.

So, because he has never done that role before means he can't? Do you know any sporting directors with experience off the top off your head that we could attract?
Couldn’t tell you if he could do that role. I certainly wouldn’t want him near the club though.

Sporting Directors are not usually failed managers to be fair. Some are ex players and others have a coaching background or agent background.

Gone are the dayswhen it’s a final payday for an older manager IF it’s the European SD we are looking to emulate.

What does the role of sporting director entail, or does that change from club to club? Does it differ much from DOF?

At the level we are we have to be realistic. You have to sell the project to the right person that wants a project. Long term.

If you are offering complete control to a Sporting Director then you are looking at a 10 year project. The Head Coach can come and go depending on success and we then recruit to the core values of the club and Sporting Director. Continuity is King.

Schwarz has been around, Valencia have a very good structure he may be a possibility. Then Phillips becomes a possibility as a lack of experience doesn’t hold him back when all he’s be given is a group to coach, organise and motivate.

It’s an interesting proposal but the right people are key.

It changes massively. It can be a glorified ambassador role to the other extreme of being in charge of the whole football side of the club which includes recruiting and supporting a manager/head coach.

The club writes the job description.

Hopefully it's more of the latter then and they can sort out our recruitment! I'd love to see a club ethos implemented of high energy, high pressing football with players brought in to fit the style of play. Then bring in a manager/head coach that can work with players and improve them, whilst bringing through lads from the academy. Basically what we should have done since we got relegated.

But he can't deviate for mind numbing corporate buzz word bingo bollocks.....owt original sweetcheeks?

Why cos I used the word project?

never got the impression he was particularly progressive in his approach and he was dull as owt when Boro manager. Long time ago but I assume he hasn’t gotten less negative with age.

I know several pros who have been coached by him and each of them said he was the best coach they ever had by a mile. Not a manager but and excellent coach.

I would hope it’s closer to the latter too. The appointment is crucial of course but we need something to believe in.

And you are bang on, sorting the club out from top to bottom should have been done the first season at this level. Hindsight and chancers aside.

I'm comfortable with this Cochise, let's drive this through.....
