Speakman

No wonder this club goes from disaster to disaster.

On Monday Speakman had played a blinder apart from the CB situation going from the general consensus. I've seen people blame Speakman for letting Younger go. If he was that reliable why wasn't he playing RB ahead of Winchester and Gooch??? Johnson didn't fancy him and was happy to let him leave to further his development.

We've been without a manager for 6 days! I confident it will be sorted in the next day or two.

As for Keane, I personally can't see him being a success based on the current setup. He spent a fair whack when he was with us the last time. Some of his buys were good, and others were crap. He then worked on a budget at Ipswich and was found wanting.

All the hype about him is from journalista and Sky. Don't blame the club if it doesn't happen.

When things are going a bit tits up it's very easy to look and point fingers at everyone. Not so long ago everyone was saying how great a job he was doing with the recruitment. My worry with Speakman is not so much what he wants to do but that pressure from fans will result is choices to appease. No idea how it will work out with Defoe for example but is he really the right choice for us at this point in time. The same can be said of Keane. But I bet he will join Defoe despite going against the 'philosophy'.

I can just imagine Speakman having a spreadsheet with “Manager attributes” down the rows with points scores and a total at the bottom. Last row being “threat to my job” and Keane scoring 1000 points
"So Grant, you scored 8 out of 10 when it comes to Microsoft Excel sheet formulas. Roy, you just wrote "fuck off spekman" multiple times and scored 0 points. Congratulations Grant"

The interview was pathetic. If they're still drawing up a f***ing short list then the whole point of sacking a coach so we can aim for automatic promotion has been negated by taking so long we're fucked before they do it. It wasn't a quick sacking, they'll have known it was coming, if they haven't planned then it's a dereliction of duty. The fans have said who they want. Get him in. Unless maybe speakman is worried that someone else might think he's a gobshite. I actually have a bit of time for speakman, but this could be a major misstep

Might just be brinkmanship tbh.

Keane was on national tv last night saying contract needs to be right knowing full well it heaps pressure on us to match demands (Keane is master of this and done it his whole career). Speakman then takes it upon himself to play it down.

I do wonder if Speakman would have done that interview today if Keane wasn't on tv last night.

Funny as fuck like. Being thorough.

16 games left slipping out of the playoffs. Take your time Speakman lad. Probably signed Keane up on Wednesday but Keane has to pass his Microsoft Office access course before he's allowed to manage the team.
Ha’way the spreadsheet!

I’m not so sure. I think he’s given LJ a squad that should be capable of automatic promotion from this league. I’m less convinced about the January transfers but we’ve got to give them a chance first. But being 14 points effectively behind Wigan isn’t acceptable at all with this squad.

I think we've got some good ability in the squad but a really weak mindset. Some of it will come because of inexperience (LJ already commented on it) and consistency is affected by it. But we know if we rely on kids with barely any first team experience then consistency/mental strength will invariably suffer.

You might be right mate but I don't think there was any need. He knows the fans want Keane. He knows we want hope as much as anything. There was no need to address it at all. And it was definitely the wrong move given the result that then followed.

Its one of two things for me. He doesn't want keane but the owners does and its a power play. Or Keane is literally not happening now, which seems unlikely after keanes body language etc just the might before.

If he appoints McCann or Lennon then we might as well have kept Brent.

This was/is his call, if its not Keane then he might as well pack his bags as well, the new manager will be facing an uphill struggle from day 1.

Over to you speakman

I agree to a point, but also those inexperienced kids could have been helped a lot better than they have been. Rotating them in and out, dropping them at the right times, building them up and managing them individually a bit better all would have helped get the best out of them.

Even little things like playing evans left and Neil right would have split up the kids on the pitch and kept some experience around, so you had Neil near Flanagan and evans near Doyle and cirkin, for example, instead of a triangle of Neil, Cirkin and Doyle playing themselves into trouble.

Best case scenario it’s just posturing about having other options to keep negotiations balanced after what Keane said.

Anything more than than and we are about to see a monumental fuck up.

Agreed - Keanes names out there now, helped massively by KLD, so if we move away from Keane the new guy needs to hit the ground running and will forever be under the Roy Keane cloud

I'm just playing devils advocate tbh but I think Keane being on tv saying that is worse case scenario for them if contract isn't signed. They either need to match his demands or go elsewhere which at this point will kill off any good will.

Pretty unanimous we all want Keane and he's been up for talks which suggests the club wants him too. If we then appoint McCann it's all the clubs fault because Keane has already said contract needs to be right.

Club left in a no win situation so Speakman needs to relieve some preasure at let Keane know we won't bow down to certain demands (which may well be more to do with contract length than money tbf)

They’ll be negotiating to save 50p a week on his wage, ignoring the fact we just lost 3 points today and any half chance we had at a late run at automatic because of it

We wait and perform the “due diligence” on selecting a head coach and we aren’t making the playoffs. We are an absolute sh**eagle on the pitch and waiting 2 weeks to bring someone in will make it. 2 weeks too late. If you’re going to sack the coach at least have some sense to research potential candidates before doing so. Being reactive and Slow acting in this situation will kill our chances at playoffs.
