Speakman gone

Done an amazing job really within the budget set. I'm sorry to see him go. Feels a little like the end of an era, most players swept out (rightly so imho) and now this. Appreciate we maybe have bigger ambitions but I feel a bit sad about it as he had a major impact on turning us around. A very switched on bloke despite his management speak at times. Wonder where his next project will be?

Did some good stuff , did some less good stuff . Main thing he did was brought us the Bellingham money and probably helped keep Riggy . I dont think hes had much to do with building the current first 11 or players around the squad we wont be trying to replace in the summer. We havent signed a decent lower level English prospect for years which was his main play book . Not knocking him at all hes definitely worked his frock off but neither am i having a wake.
Lets not forget he signed, Ba, Jewi, Poveda, Hjelda, Pembele, . Browne, let Mowbray go and brought in "the greatest coaching I've ever seen" in Beale and couldnt find a striker for two years ( did well to get money for Stewart though )
If that second Shef Utd goal had stood and we'd stayed in a difficult Championshp many would have been wanting him gone about now .
Its a bit concerning, the radical nature of an assistant head coach and a director of football leaving in close proximity but if we'd beat Liverpool people wouldnt have been worried in the least
Good luck Speakers , its been emotional 😭 😬🫣😳👏🏻👏🏻

Nah from what I’ve heard it was quite the opposite, he was approached with a “Sunderland-esque” project last summer but we have kept him around during the transition period with the new fella and promotion. There’s always the possibility we could have been keeping him due to the fear of needing him if we were to drop as well I bet.

Ultimately though, we have progressed as a club under him and are now onto the next phase of progression with a better man, just like has happened with almost all of the playing staff from the last few years too.

Thank you and good luck in your next venture.
Succession planning, as Kristjaan might say.
