There's a brown dwarf 75 light years from Earth named CFBDSIR 1458. It has a surface temperature of 97c. It has light, many gases, water and even the possibility of clouds. Is it possible that this star could support intelligent life? We can argue no because of many factors, including a greater gravity than our own planet, less light and a restricted light spectrum, but that's only relevant if we go by our own Earth bound rules. What if said aliens were made from photons, how would that make Interstellar travel possible? 75 years to get to Earth seems a long time, but only if your species has an average lifespan of 83 years.
If they are here they would probably go undetected as they would be practically transparent and only visible in the Infrared.
Before you laugh at the mere suggestion of this possibility, we also laughed in the 70's when the Thunderbird lot all had video watches.

I'm no scientist, but I reckon the same laws of physics apply throughout the universe, probably the same physics that found the planet and detected what gasses are in abundance, chance of microbial life high, chance of intelligent life very very low

But because 97°is below 100°we have an assumption that it is water, secondary school science teaches you that water boils at 70° on top of mount Everest and 100°only at sea level.

Depends on the size of the reactor - the enriched uranium payload for a reactor the size of e.g. Torness power station might be prohibitive but a nuclear sub sized reactor would only be ~10Kg

I forgot to post about this. Went out with my daughter, onto a local hill. Pleasing to see a lot of people interested as a few groups gathered. Got our cameras set up, then sat watching cloud and not even a faint glow of the moon for over an hour, then came home. Beautiful sunset though.
