Southampton spying compendium thread

It's 4 points even if it was 20 they probably wouldn't go down and they will still invest decent money and have decent managers for championship level wanting to be in charge, are they really going to finish below that many teams.
Depends what more sanctions there is and how many players leave for nothing and what sort of manager they'd still be able to attract.

Yeah- I mean there could be a case for them being dumped out of the league. But I think the league sanction is covered in the 4 poiints deduction (the playoff removal is more specific to how a knock out competition works).

But yes- I agree. I really don't see what else the EFL could have done regarding the playoffs.
They Cheated and lost mate...that is the bottom line. I'd have much preferred to see Hull City promoted through a "No Contest" ruling due to both Milwall and Boro being beaten in these knock outs. Boro do have the Cheating case to argue I suppose.

These rules brought into the game as a direct result after Bielsa, which imo have been interpreted correctly (Nobody likes a cheat). It is going to be interesting to see what further sanctions are going to be imposed on Eckert and his motley crew and Southampton (which all of this seems to stem from when he was appointed head Coach by them) by the FA.
His Sporting Director, who will have known just what was going on but would appear to have distanced himself and also the Saints as a Club. For a later date, what sanctions will be imposed by the FA and probably UEFA for the coach to continue working in British and European football.
Now, there have been a few pundits, the one I mentioned on SKY and also Talksport this morning who think this punishment, like Southampton's owners do, is bit harsh. Yet, not one of those pundits has came forward with a punishment that would seem commensurate with this particular offence. That then begs the question of "what type of offence would lead to been thrown out of a competition run by the FA"? Slipping the Ref a bung, a wedge of cash or the same to the opposing Club ? That is probably the only one I could think of ?

This rule was brought in Directly after the Leeds/Derby fiasco to stop just this type of scenario occurring again. Southampton have been caught , by their own admission and have been initially sanctioned.. The 4 point penalty imposed is neither here or there , just ask Leicester or Sheffield Wednesday about points deductions.

Just a on the field of play with player diving or feigning injury, Cheats should never prosper.

Rant Ends.🤔

Suppose but can only go on at the moment where they would spend decent money and fairly decent people wanting to manage them, can't see them getting anymore embargoes for transfers or restrictions on spending, even if they got hefty sanctions, they probably wouldn't finish below Cardiff, Watford, Lincoln, Blackburn etc

Yeah I agree and that's clearly how it works too.

The insinuation from Southampton, and some fitba commentators, is that they didn't gain an advantage at all on the pitch, I don't agree as it must've effected the Burra players and their training even if it was just mildly.

I should have been more precise. If Southampton hadn't did what they did, and the results had remained the same as occured, there'd have been no complaints, no investigation, no charges and they'd be still playing at Wembley on Sarrada. They can therefore have no complaints now and imho seem to have got off lightly.
And even if the boro players were not affected and Southampton had lost the game, despite the advantage. The fact is that they still broke the rules by cheating and gaining an unfair/unlawful advantage, regardless if they won or lost. An advantage that would still have warrant the investigation and punishment by the EFL, that produced this guilty verdict of cheating.

Can see them relegated next season
If other clubs have enough evidence to complain over the summer, they could find themselves demoted to Div3/L1 AND also starting with a hefty points deduction from the EFL.

And now the FA are involved too, the club and ownership could face even more penalties.

Rules are rules and must be followed alreet, but isn't it remarkable how swift and terminal the decisions were made in the case of Southampton? With potential catastrophic consequences for the club, that'll set them back for years for an offence hardly distinguishable from something as trivial as scouting? Reminds me of the severity of Sunderland's troubles in the 50's for an "offence" even officially legalised just a little afterwards.
How does it compare to the hundred or so charges of citeh that's been dragged on for years and still no sight of conclusion?
And even then, weren't they just trying to copy what Chelsea did successfully earlier, who seem to have gotten away with their own set of "irregularities" with little more than a slap on the wrist?

Anyway, I remain a simple man, so I'm in camp red n' white. 🤷‍♀️

That’s because there was only one charge against Southampton. There are 115 against City.

Summat like 100,000 pages of legal docs to go through.

Need to prepare for the modern game then! Someone should tell KLD we need a fast printer more than good players, a room filled with paper and a dodgy version of chatgpt. Just in case, y'nowwhatameen!

Try asking AI a question something like - "what are the potential financial implications to Southampton as a result of spygate?"

I strongly suspect that their problems have hardly begun.
I didnt think about sponsors, but I doubt they will want to be sponsoring a club with a tarnished reputation.

Stupid thing is Southampton could likely have won that match without spying.

Aye fair enough can only go on what's happening so far will be interesting to see

Players know the usual amount of detail gleaned from scouting etc. The majority of the players, especially the experienced lads will 1000% of knew that they were privy to information they were not meant to have.

Whether they were aware of the exact detail of how it was obtained is unclear, but, football clubs are full of people with a lot of time on their hands where information is a valuable currency. I'd be amazed if they didn't know exactly what was going on.
I mean look at the stuff that’s leaked in here over the decades because someone knew someone that worked around the aol. The players will have known there was supposed to be a pic going around their WhatsApp before charges were brought with one of the clubs coaching staff in a snipers outfit. I think a lot of them knew like you say people spend more time at a training complex than they do with their families.

Now that whinning fanny at bora is saying havent had time to prepare, basically get his excuses ready in case they get beat.
Maybe they should have just promoted bora.
