Southampton spying compendium thread

Eckert might not have known the rules, but with all the coaching staff nowadays, someone should have spoken up.
It's not one bad apple, it's all of them complicit. Individual fines and bans will follow.

It was right to give the playoff to Boro. Southampton have said they will appeal as the penalty is too harsh but they admitted all charges so they haven't got a leg to stand on,
Hope the EFL stand firm and don’t budge on appeal.

Refreshing to see a major football body in this country actually not be spineless and punish those in the wrong.

"Sources with knowledge of the situation maintain Southampton’s ownership were unaware of the spying campaign.

Instead, Eckert admitted responsibility. The 33-year-old has held positions with the German national team, as part of their 2012 European Championship campaign, as well as the youth teams at FC Köln, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. He has also been assistant manager at Barnsley and at Italian club Genoa.

His key defence was that, since the practice is widespread on the continent, he had no idea he was breaking English football’s rules.

Eckert has been badly bruised by the scandal and fears he could be banned by the Football Association and lose his job at Southampton.

He and Spors are both highly likely to face disciplinary action from the FA, potentially along with Southampton’s intern analyst Salt, who was pictured filming."
That is an explanation, but not a defence.

Imagine if Celtic had been one up going into injury time v Hearts, and then Hearts equalized.

So no-one at the club was aware of what was going on? Bull and sh1t.
Stinks to hi heaven if the manager has said he orderd it and new.. But claming he did not know it was wrong... Surely someone would of known....

You mentioned sinister motives for getting close to players. Lunatic coked up Celtic fan gets on the pitch easily in a rage, in a charged situation and stabs a Hearts player.

Sorry mate - I get you now
I was thinking that training sessions will become open season for any nutter to crash from now on
Worse still it's advertised to terrorists that training sessions for Championship clubs have no security

What I haven’t seen mentioned is how long the lad was watching. If he was there 5 minutes then he won’t have seen anything that could affect anything.
If he watched over an extended period of time then a lot of information could have been gathered.
What matters is that Southampton clearly thought they could gain an advantage otherwise they would not have sent the lad. Does not matter if his phone battery was dead and he got no footage at all. They are still guilty.

He should be sacked.
