Southampton spying compendium thread

What I haven’t seen mentioned is how long the lad was watching. If he was there 5 minutes then he won’t have seen anything that could affect anything.
If he watched over an extended period of time then a lot of information could have been gathered.
If a chap stole your car off your drive but the police recovered it after only 5 minutes, would you think less of the offense compared to a week of the chap driving it around?

You haven’t seen it mentioned because it’s irrelevant.
A Southampton employee has travelled ower 300 miles ower however many hours to spy on the opposition in their (at the time) biggest game of the season is relevant, how shite he is at his task doesn’t enter the equation.

He’s still committed the offence by observing for any length of time but how long he observed is relevant as a mitigating / aggravating factor. If he was there for just a minute the panel may go easier on him than if he was there 4 hours.

You do have to feel sorry for Hull. They have done nothing wrong and are yet being left in limbo.
Yeah….but the club will get over it if the date is changed.
The Hull fans that have already paid for accommodation and train travel will not be reimbursed and and change of date would almost certainly mean that fans will have to fork out twice and that is if they can even make the new date.
Plenty will either not be able to make the rearranged date due to work and other commitments while many more will simply find that it is financially impossible.

The EFL ‘saving face’ is the least of my concerns.
Let the game go ahead as planned (sorry Boro) and if found guilty, which they have already admitted to, punish Southampton with a huge fine and (if Southampton win) a draconian, suspended points deduction when they drop back into the EFL.
Anything else just says “fuck the fans….as long as we look ‘good’….” from the EFL.

They can’t possibly let Southampton play in the premier league next season.

The EFL are running rapidly out of time. They cannot please every club.
But a decision HAS to be made and ANY decision that changes the date of the play-off final is a direct slap in the face to the Hull fans.
No doubt some Southampton fans will have laid out substantial amounts of money based on the game taking place as originally planned and while their club appears to be guilty, they as supporters are not.
Same thing happened with Swindon, but they at least had the day in the sun before it was all taken from them.

Boro have little argument in my eyes.
They were beaten over the two legs. That is 210 minutes of football. Are they REALLY saying that the ‘spying’ before the first leg affected both legs and the extra-time at Southampton?
Naaah….that is a feeble argument at best.

Punish Southampton for their indiscretions, but the final must take place on the correct date, just as our play-off final v Swindon did.

How is that even remotely relevant?
The club have intentionally broken the rules to gain an unfair advantage on their opponent. They’ve cheated. Weather their cheating was successful and helped them or not is completely irrelevant.

There’s no other punishment than a sporting sanction - Soton being awarded a 3-0 defeat in the first leg. And if this wasn’t a one off, you could be looking at expulsion from the Championship next season (or a points deduction so severe they’d be doomed).

If this spying had occurred and come to light during the normal season we’d already have a decision….big fine and points deduction.

The fact it has only come to light in the play offs has just cranked up the risk element for the EFL.

They are now dealing with the fact they will be removing a 200m potential prize from either saints or Boro and they’ll want to make sure they have covered all bases and make what would be viewed as a proportionate decision….possibly not even the right decision but one defensible legally for when the inevitable legal claim comes in

That’s the only reason we are waiting for a decision they will be scrambling around trying to mitigate this as much as possible and bollocks to sporting integrity or the fans.

Eh ? I haven’t even mentioned boro. You said if Southampton go up they need a suspended points deduction for when they get relegated, I said they can’t possibly let them up to begin with.

As its taking so long to sort out then its inevitable will be fine/ points deduction. They won't get booted out now. Most likely will win the final to really piss everone off. If they play us first game of the season our supporters should all get free binoculars for the match and a small bush to hide behind.
