Southampton spying compendium thread


If Southampton are found guilty and get away with a points deduction (suspended if they go up) and a large fine, it’s effectively no deterrent to others doing it going forward, given the potential huge £££ reward from going up.

As an aside, that Southampton manager looks like a right little toad of a human being.

But they can't have a points deduction.... outside the PL remit.

My ideal scenario:

Southampton play against Hull and win. Get promotion stripped from them for breaking EFL rules.

Big fine and 12 points deduction from the EFL . Hull take their place in the PL.

Of the 3 to come up, Coventry have a very outside chance to stay up, Ipswich and A.N. Other will both drop back down.

But God help them if there is any evidence that they have spied on other Clubs during the season. If there is the FL will have to throw the book at them.

You’d have to ask why other clubs didn’t come forward and accuse them, presenting evidence to the EFL at the time of the incident surely? Sounds like band wagon jumping to me.
 
If Southampton are convicted of the offence charged surely the only reasonable punishment would mean they aren’t allowed to play in the playoff final.

Any fine or points deduction wouldn’t really penalise them for the advantage they gained over Boro and would surely incentivise other clubs to do the same.

The EFL have said the decision will be communicated by Tuesday latest so any punishment will be known by then. I can’t imagine another punishment relating to the play offs would be announced after the game should it go ahead.
What I could imagine is that an additional investigation could be held into any evidence that may exist if Southampton spied on other teams during the regular season. In that case, it’s possible another punishment could be announced which may be a fine or points deduction for Southampton's next season in the championship, whenever that may be.

I think most Clubs dismiss intruders as pests who simply want to get close to the players for autographs or photos etc. On a day to day basis the first reaction of a Club is unlikely to be "this is someone who has been sent to spy on us" but more like "get this idiot off the premises so we can get on with our work".

It may be that a Club who had written off an intruder as being simply another nuisance a couple of months ago has because of Boro' experience had another look at the incident and have concluded that there might be more to it. The fact they may not have thought anything of it before is understandable as people must trespass on to their land all of the time.

I don't know if any Clubs have come forward but it possible that one or two might have recognised one of their intruders from the photograph that Boro released. They would certainly have to come up with some sort of hard evidence like that in order to be taken seriously. I don't think that just expressing a suspicion that an earlier incident of theirs it might have had something to do with Southampton would carry any weight nor should it.

Maybe not Europe, but he is one player that could step up (despite his faux gangster speak!). He has played half the season with a dodgy shoulder that's been operated on now. We're probably going to need about 6 new starters, and that may well still not be enough. Just happy to have got our snouts in the trough tbh.

Got the play offs being decided in court?...Got Hull sat at home not knowing who the bloody hell they are playing next week,got Southampton training for a game they migt not be playing in, got 'Boro not knowing whether to train or f.ook off to Ibiza for a week.
Ahh thank f.ook for Sheffield Wednesday, when we knew we were getting relegated 8 months ago, theres a sorta comfort in knowing yer f.ooked before you start!
Its bloody comical..Live on SKY from the bloody Old Bailey...Music playing as the lawyers walk out to "Ode to sodding joy" or summat....its beyond ludicrous.
Man City winning all in sight, while facing more sodding charges than Custer at the little big horn....I honestly don't knowwhether to watch "Match of the day"or "Rumpole of the Bailey" at the minute
