Southampton spying compendium thread

Unfair on Boro if Southampton are denied promotion but allowed to go to Wembley. If disqualified, that needs to happen now.
A bit unfair if Hull were promoted in their place when it was Boro they got the advantage over through cheating. It's going to get awkward though as they haven't been found guilty of anything yet, only charged, so the play off final really has to go ahead. If they win the final then are found guilty it would be canny unfair Hull getting promoted when it was Boro they beat though spying on them and cheating.

It's a nightmare situation for the efl to sort out.

Wonder if they consider banning the manager and staff, was it FIFA that did that with Canada women?

Actually when you think about it loads of options for the EFL sanction wise (financial and sporting) but let’s be honest Boro won’t be happy unless they are given a place in the final and I can’t blame them for having that viewpoint.

EFL will be looking to mitigate risk as much as possible, I’m expecting a sizable fine, points deduction next time in champo and EFL hoping that’s viewed as proportionate and reasonable in any future legal proceedings.

Fascinating to be on the outside looking in, shite if you are part of it
dont let anyone up and say only 2 get relegated next season :D
Yes, I like this, Fletch for EFL CEO

similarish scenario 1990 swindon , when we went up

Not saying it’s right but my money would be on a big fine and points deduction next time they are in the championship (which of course could be next season)

Legal battles incoming regardless
I think Hull will win the final.and I think Southampton could have a fine and points deduction for next season. The EFL daft gor bot having a punishment in the rulebook mind. Leaves it wide open to interpretation

Aye ok to want to retain flexibility in what punishment to dish out to give a little wiggle room, but that in itself carries a big risk when things go massively tits up, as we are now seeing

EFL have kicked it into the long grass, while whistling and looking the other way. They will be judged on what action they take.

If proven, they cannot allow Saints ( ) to benefit and Boro to be disadvantaged by deliberate cheating.

If they make the wrong decision, and it needs to be in a day or two, they will put themselves on a par with the FA and FIFA. A fecking joke.

Southampton begging for more time is an admission in my mind.

Yep they have to play the final then decide if found guilty. This is more tricky than the Swindon case though as Boro were the team that lost out through their cheating so wouldn't really be fair to promote Hull in their place.
Boro will be fuming. Fans will be fuming and no one of any club has any clue what the possible outcome will be. Think the EFL were hoping they would lose so they could sanction them next season but that ship has sailed.

Its a bit of a mess looking in from the outside and just really looking at it now . Need judge Judy on the case here

It will never happen though as the governing authorities in football want an easy life which only involves saying yes to brown envelopes for the most part. Rather than actually handing down a punishment. Now if Southampton were broke with no money to challenge them legally, then they’d happily stick the boot in as it would be no risk. But since they have some of the biggest revenue in that league, I sadly doubt they will do anything of significance in this judgement.

Right now I suspect they are just praying Hull win so they can dedicate 5-6 points from Southampton and call it done.

Agree, just look what they done to Sheff Wed et al. You have a few quid the EFL drop their pants

Need a stellar panel

I’m not sure what they do now. There’s going to be 35,000+ Southampton fans booking travel and hotels in London today. It’s going to be carnage.
Their lot don’t need hotels, it’s 1hr30 on the train and the last back is 23:39…only costs £23 too! Let the carnage commence! 🤣

EFL are fucked whatever they do here.

Kick them out and legal battle with Southampton (not to mention the protocols allowing internal appeals by Southampton before any formal legal action)

Don’t kick them out and legal challenge from Boro

Other clubs looking at any potential opportunities from a legal sense
Good point. Any clubs beaten by Southampton, who were on the fringe of the play-offs. Wrexham, American owners love to sue.

Expect this to move really quickly now. A sporting sanction from the commission like a 3-0 first leg Boro win + Southampton only having 24 hours to appeal and then appeal be reviewed immediately.

As the case is handled by the FL appointed independent commission Southampton would NOT be able to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (the same as City won't be able to as their case was reviewed by an independent commission of 3 relevant experts).

Can just imagine the shitshow and panic at EFL headquarters, ready for the showpiece of the EFL, drama, excitement, corporate days at Wembley…..Bosh no holidays for you lot this summer, execs will be workshopping this to fuck

As usual the EFL are slow to react. They took a gamble that Boro would win and this would blow over, now it’s going to go nuclear.
Its been about 4/5 days. Its not possible to sort it that quickly. Whatever they decide, Southampton have a legal right to an appeal.
