Years ago I went to see the brilliant Peter Osgood at a football talk-in. He was one of the pioneers of "soccer" in the USA after a stellar career in England. Back then, a lot of the American soccer teams played their games on plastic surfaces. He was chatting to one of the American players and asked "do you prefer grass or astroturf?". The American lad's response was exactly per your quote

Yes, this article confirms it. It’s never been a full on desso pitch or equivalent, which I think is what we are getting now. It seems like it was a bit of a make to and mend a couple of years back, which sounds apt for SAFC tbh.

Bought nine square metres of the pitch from the club, it came with eight empty crisps packets and six Greggs pasty bags.

We haven't, the current pitch or the one ripped up has artificial grass woven into the base also.
