SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

Nah it was all very honest. We were all split into groups and were asked lots of things, but one of the big ones was what we don’t like about the Stadium of Light. Nee sugarcoating. I sit in the SWC so I had a list as long as my arm, as the concourse and facilities there are shocking.
Whilst I agree, the facilities are WAY WAY better than any away ground we’ve played at this season. Made me realise how lucky we are!!

what if there is a person in the seat?surely that negates the seeing the ball bollocks!.its always about the money..white coloured plastic seats take a longest for the colour to fade in the sun and even then it barely noticeable so they last the longest without needing changing....red and black seats are probably the worst for fading and look awful when on mass when they dont have a bum on it!.

.Of course if you you can buy good quality seats that will last a long time before fading bu that comes at a premium but they all fade eventually (just compare the seats that Bain replaced to the ones the spivs bought and you can see the quality difference)

My personal opinion is the white seats look awful in the corners ..but in reality it doesnt matter for fans if bums are on seats ...What does matter in my opinion though if we are trying to attract top notch players to safc and showing them around the empty ground (usually in the summer)and the ground looks dilapidated because of the presence of shabby seats it sorta doesn't give a good impression to prospective players.

I dont know how you solve the problem as all plastic fades! ....either going to the expense of covering the seats when not in use (i doubt thats an option as where would you store the covers when not in use and the cost involved) using only white seats ?(it will look awful) or perhaps dont have huge block of one colour but have a haphazard dotted pattern of white seats ,black seats and red seats and even blue (away colours)in that way the fading wont look so bad!

One thing is for sure it aint a high priority but how our ground looks is important but i personally wont lose any sleep over it!
The wages will aid in them forgiving a few old looking seats

Old thinking paradigm that mate !...were aiming for near the top so the players were after will be offered the same wages at other toppish clubs (or do you actually think we will outbid everyone)its about first impressions ..the video they send out the narrative the spread about the club and the player turns up for a look round and the ground looks shabby ..doesnt fit the message and whilst you think money always wins im a little more nuanced and recognise the valus of first impressions in decision making! You of course might be right but im not sure you are but i also recognise there are more important things on the agenda!

I don't think we'll offer above others. I think money is the dominant factor albeit not the only one.

Nah. His name is .... and he used to write for a bunch of SAFC websites, including RR, around 2016/2017. He’s got form for going on exactly like this, usually on here and usually when full of drink, under a variety of usernames (just check the previous posting history of any of the accounts I posted earlier in this thread, his posting style is always the same).

To get this thread back on track somewhat, the invite is extended to anyone who thinks they can be of value to improving stadium atmosphere. The club especially want younger fans that go home and away, but anyone with good ideas and a passion for taking the club forward into the modern era (and possibly helping to embrace some of the stuff you see across Europe - JUST NOT DRUMS  ) should get involved.

Should bring back the lights on the roof of the Stadium too. It was unique to us. Now the footbridge is opening I can’t think of a better time to do it.

I'm not sure what the fans could possibly suggest , that is achievable from the clubs perspective? Not trying to sound too pessimistic, but other than what This Is Wearside are doing, what other options are there?

Increasing the safe standing area is an easy one. Make it the entire south stand and SWC.

I'd stop playing music after the full time whistle. Let people celebrate and sing . Allow it to be organic

I've suggested it for years there should be young persons only section. Front two blocks of the south stand. Make it all standing and make it under 25s only. There's pockets of young people all over the ground but it's not very exciting for them is it.

Also, make a fenced off area outside each stand for half time. Would solve so many problems at once. Such a simple win for the club

The fenced off area is soooo simple a solution to the concourse problem, bottom level anyway. Most away games now have a fenced bit outside the exits at half time so vapers/faggers can nip out, freeing up space inside the concourse for drinkers/eaters.

Pretty much every single ground has this . But apparently the club have looked into it and it's impossible at the SoL.

Palace are able to use the road behind the away stand for that (all the roads round the ground are no-traffic). Surely we can use land we already own.

How the hell is it impossible? I mean, you couldn't do it in the west stand,as you have the front entrance bit and that, but surely the rest of the ground would be easy. Especially the south and east stand. A bit fencing with a couple of stewards stopping people jumping ower. Easy

Exactly. I'd have one in the south stand and 2 in the east stand , would solve a massive amount of issues.

It would take a small amount of organising and costs , and the only people getting the immediate benefit is the non-corperate fans, so the club aren't interested.

I'm pretty sure that the kiosk takings would increase massively

Would work in South and East stands.

How many times have you gone for an interview and you just get a vibe from the place when you go through the door that this is not for you?lots of folk make decisions on those types un-quantifiable feelings and in my view if the sol loos like a well kept stadia it will have a positive effect on some of that!

Think there definitely needs to be a discussion around the south stand going all standing and moving the family section.

A discussion with the club ? On an official basis with the intention of them actually following through with it?

I'm glad that there appears to be some lines of communication opening with the club, but I'll reserve judgement on how committed they are to actually doing anything that costs money

They can't even open sufficient turnstiles for the cup games and are happy to have 1000s of people queuing outside as the game has started. And they could have created outside over spill / smoking areas years ago but clearly won't entertain it.

When you take into account the absolute shit show that is the ticket office and communication of information, I just can't help but feel that it's all just lip service so Bruce and them can say they are listening to fans.

I'd love them to make the entire south stand and the two corners safe standing , I think it would be an easy change to make that would help the atmosphere. But until we can get groups of young lads able to easily go in the ground and move about and stand together, there's not going to be that much we can do with regards to the atmosphere

Ps - I'm on 60+ loyalty points and rarely miss a game home or away , would have been nice to have been invited ;-)

you may be right on that one, but if the pay is good my decision is swayed, generally.

Take this as your invite then, you're welcome to come along with me to the next one!

You're right, time will tell, but I can't help but feel like the experience as a whole was really positive and that the club are serious about listening and improving. I think now we've got a Premier League budget it's changed the scale of how quickly they can do stuff.

One of the big things I raised that I feel needs tackling is the fact that people routinely leave their seats from 35 minutes onwards - and I'm one of these people at most home games - to get a pint because if you don't, you haven't got a chance of getting one at half time in time to get yourself back to your seat. Thousands of people do it and they are thousands that are not in their seats supporting the team before and after half time.

The club really need to think seriously about improving the speed at which kiosk service happens on the concourse. The E-Bars have been a really smart addition but it's not enough - if they need to line every single spare space with them in order to facilitate the demand then they should do it. Presumably they cannot build more kiosks but there need to be alternatives explored.

One other thing that was put to the club was about opening up outdoor space and putting bars out there, like loads of other clubs do (went to loads of away games last season where this was the case). If they haven't got room on the concourses themselves, open up areas outside that people can use with pop up bars and so on. Seems a no brainer to me.

I know getting a beer at the match isn't a priority for most people, but it is for many and particular where I sit in the SWC it's almost impossible to spend your money on the concourse unless you leave your seat well before half time and, thus, you're not up there supporting the team.
