SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

Similar type of things at Argyle. Queue for ages and get charged 3 quid for a bottle of coke etc. So today went to Rogers and got 24 bottles of fanta for 8 quid. Link provided to show u type of place it is

Development of infrastructure is outside of the FFP rules. We have a billionaire owner, another shareholder who isn’t short of a few bob, and they have access to finance via borrowing if they need it.

The SoL is quite frankly dropping to bits. It’s aged like a half eaten pear on a mantle piece. It was built on the cheap and it isn’t half showing now. The custodians of the club should look to do something more about it sharpish before we’re totally left behind again as we were at Roker.

After nearly 30 years of getting battered by winds and rain off the coast, it’s not surprising that the external cladding/roof is looking a bit ropey.

The SSOL was built cheaply because of the minimal steel frame and with SBM having had others pay to remediate the site. Others haven’t maintained it properly.

It was also cheap as 3/4 of the ground was fairly cheap. It’s not a high spec design, it’s fairly basic (in comparison with Ajax stadium that was built by the same construction company IIRC). The Marvel stadium in Melbourne was also built 1997, is of a similar size but just was built to a better spec.

It needs modernising soon otherwise it will be a total clip soon

It looks pristine compared to the Darlington Arena! But yes, I agree.

The external cladding needs replacing or re-coating.

People often say roker was falling down etc towards the end, and yes it was 99 years old, but it was always really well cared for with things like this. Fresh paint every season and always done with care.

Not that it matters I guess, but why are the rails we've installed in the south stand not painted red?
They sacked a load of the ground staff when the move from Roker to SoL happened, most had been there 10+ years.

They’d also put some fencing around a loose metal tile in the SWC on Saturday too. Caused carnage as it was blocking thousands of people walking by
Inside or out? there was that fencing around a damaged metal cover outside the ground and combined with the area fenced off for the TV camera crews caused chaos before the game. Why could they not have just put a plate over the issue.

My guess is that our last few owners have seen us as something to make a quick few quid on and leave the stadium for whoever comes in next.

That line about spending money on either the team or the stadium is complete and utter bollocks. They've only said that as they know it will keep some fans on side.

Only if it counts as capital expenditure. Repairs and renewals count as costs as far as the P&L is concerned. To be capital, anything done would need to be entirely new, or a significant upgrade on what was previously there.

Knew I'd seen that somewhere before and why I questioned it - think it was you that put this info down on here sometime ago
