SOL expansion

Get it extended. Can't be any legitimate negatives other than people saying empty seats. Just going off the top of my head but sure we used to average 37-39k in the Prem 10-15 years ago and we had more than that in the championship so it's easier more popular or population is increasing.

the people who bought houses next to the stack are now putting in complaints about noise and trying to scupper future development. nailed on it would be the same thing here which is what the club will be worried about
Why move right to next to any football stadium anyway , imagine derby day and some of the stuff that goes on 😆
I think another 5k on capacity would be a good investment and help to create a great home end also

They've lobbed off 2000 seats, so i assume they have loads of corporate stuff. Would make capacity 54k.
Given we top out at 46,500ish now then it would be high 51k/low 52k given it's adding 5,000ish seats.

I've not looked into this in any detail, but I can't see why there would be any legitimate planning reason for officers to recommend refusal of the Sheepfolds proposal, it would be a very straightforward application to assess. The interests of Sunderland AFC aren't it any interest in that respect, especially since expansion plans are purely aspirational at this stage.

Given the political pressure that will now be on the decision however I'd be dumbfounded if a compromise wasn't found. It's quite embarrassing for the club and the council that they've even ended up in this situation. Bizarre.

The whole thing is ridiculous mate. Ultimately it’s a very small bit of land which is causing the concern and a compromise would have been found without it being made public.

Sadly it’s now political and all the usual reform twats have jumped on it.

Although the club may have some concerns about the building being used for residential purposes, I suspect they are much more comfortable if it was designated for retail/commercial purposes.

In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were actually interested in leasing the building.

Why do we want more empty seats
Demand for seats seems to be higher than it's ever been at the moment. Season tickets sold out quite early and general sale has also disappeared very quickly (caught me out twice so far). You can speculate on the reasons and whether that's temporary or not, but I don't think it's outlandish to say we would've likely sold those extra 5-6k tickets for the West Ham and Brentford games had they been available.

Thought so mate, thanks for clarifying and I agree the whole thing is embarrassing. Is this something that could be changed during the planning process, for example, could they retrospectively relocate plots and introduce a buffer zone or would that likely require a new application?

Does the Council have to formally respond to the club, or not? I find it baffling that it's come to this mind. I would have thought this would have all been agreed as part of any pre application consultation.
It's all just proposals at this stage so it can be withdrawn and resubmitted.

Council doesn't have to respond to any objection per se, but has it take into consideration valid arguments (i.e. anything considered to be a 'material consideration' in planning terms).

Yeah I don't understand how it has got this far without club and the council's planning officers meeting to discuss these proposals. Really odd.

Bad idea to expand, you couldn't give tickets away from new year on last season. All of a sudden were in the Premier league, but these new supporters will disappear as soon as we're relegated and the ground will look desolate again.
you need to open the curtains mate
