SOL expansion

If we got promoted I'm pretty confident we'd sell out every game. But to be honest, I think it might be good for us if tickets were a bit harder to come by (through demand, not ticket office incompetence) anyway.

If we currently had a 38k seater stadium people would be making sure they got a ticket asap to avoid missing out. Once that happens for a while getting a ticket becomes more valuable.

And yet ... West Ham with traditionally much less support than us can fill a 60,000 stadium.
The Quinn era was ancient history with regard to comparing football attendances then and now. Depending on capacity, at least ten clubs now are capable of drawing 60,000.
West Ham London based will pull in thousands of tourists for every game we won’t, plus they have a huge number of people living in their catchment area

Always did have roughly the same catchment area - and with over 50,000 season ticket holders I don't think football tourists are a significant part of their crowds. Simply, football is just so popular that if you have the right facilities and ars in the PL, the sky is the limit.

The costs wouldn’t make sense, I’d imagine with building costs as they are now building onto the ground with the way costs are would be more expensive than the total outlay for the full build and north stand extension. Let’s walk before we can run eh, I’d love for it to wrap round the artist impression of the brick work all the way around the ground always looked f***ing mint. Sadly I don’t think we’ll ever see it.
It would make sense if it was a very long term investment .the earlier we do it the cheaper it will be in the long term............if you think small time you will stay there!I personally dont think KLD will make this sort of investment but he might if the goal is top ten premier league and above and to be honest any sale of the club will be cognisant of the revenue stream available and a larger capacity ground with better facilities will always make more money per seat or box....so he might get his money back but he will probably load he cost onto the club. This i hope is a new dawn for our great club and behind all the rhetoric we will never really know KLD's plan until we actually get promoted to the premier league.
Is KLD thinking yo yo or is he contemplating a stabilise and improve every year plan ?we really don't know ..We cannot be held back by luddite fans with an absurd fear of empty seats as we have to compete and our fans are peerless our team need investment and our stadium needs re jigging to improve the revenue stream so if they they think there is a return in the latter two they will invest if they dont they wont!

whats wrong with investing long term in creating a 63,700 seater stadium with magnificent facilities worthy of our fans? If we have better facilities the club will make more money even if its only gets a 45-50 thousand average ...... Why do fans have a fear of empty sets ?what is it about it? ..many of the bigger european clubs dont sell out and they are not bothered as long as the money rolls in ...is this empty seat phobia justa safc thing?are we so down trodden that we can only see investment in the team as good investment.I want to have pride in my club and the only pride i feel is the pride that we have the best fans in the land and that's it as a team we are second rate and our ground is looking tired and the facilities are poor in comparison to top clubs so anybody that wants to hold us back is stuck in the past and needs to wake up pdq or we are going nowhere.

It's in Murray's autobiography that he's seen KLD's plans for the stadium and was impressed, wasn't it?

So maybe not as farfetched as some here may think, although I imagine, as many other have pointed out, it would be to add/improve the corporate side not just whack more seats in.

Just hope it covers extending and improving the concourses as they're just not fit for purpose any more

It was mentioned at his book launch.

If you are counting all time averages, yes, without looking at the facts you may be correct. West Ham did not enter the league until around 1920. Before that, during football's formative years attendances throughout the game were a lot smaller. Sunderland in the Victorian era were known as the 'The Team of all the Talents' but in the three years that were champions never averaged more than 8,325. Up to the formation of the PL in 1992, West Ham's all time average attendance at Upton Park was just above 30,000. From 1945 to 1965 Sunderland had averaged over 40,000 on eight occasions with a further two seasons at 39,000 plus.
Cannot argue with modern day trends. West Ham's current crowds are excellent - I was one in a small minority who predicted they would draw big crowds at their new stadium - but averaging over 60K - no-one, including me, expected that.
If you want to to delve into attendances I recommend an excellent book- Football Through The Turnstiles Again by Brian Tabner published in 2002.

I understand all of that regarding clubs later entry into the League pyramid, Spurs all time average attendances are often hit with that stick despite the fact that they were drawing big crowds in Non league status and immediately on entry to the League pyramid.

As I stated previously stadium capacity affects all time attendances as well as a clubs status regarding which League that they are in etc.

Spurs for example were 2nd in the all time average attendance table until Arsenal and Liverpools bigger stadiums allowed then to pass Spurs due to the restrictions of WHL 36,300 capacity, in the image below you will see that Liverpool had just passed Spurs as Arsenal would also do a few years later.

West Ham don't actually average 60,000 like lots of clubs they use the tickets sold trick and not the actual attendance look at Police records and you will see many 45,000 to 50,000 attendances dressed up as 62,500 etc.

Spurs are one of very few clubs that use the actual match day attendance.

Along with cheap as chips adult season tickets and 15,000 kids season tickets priced at £99 each.

Kids have to pay £84 for 1 single game behind the goal at Spurs, nice fella that Daniel Levy 🤣

It costs a family of 4 £468 for a single game on the sidelines at Spurs for the most expensive tickets

I believe it's against the law to not do this. Every club on that list will do the same.

Correct, Arsenal got this a few years back

By the 2016–17 season, the reported average home league attendance was 59,957. The attendances that Arsenal reported to the Metropolitan Police for the 2015–16 season show an average home match attendance of 54,918, ranging from a high of 60,007 against Aston Villa to a low of 44,878 against West Bromwich Albion.
