Once frowned upon and having been embarrassed by our father's doing it lads of my generation simply don't do it.

However seems to be much more common place now. Seen a few normal looking lads sporting the combo.

Is it acceptable again amongst the young?

There's load of these lads wearing Air Max 95's with socks half way up their shins.
Their tans must be ridiculous.

It was always trainer socks and Adidas Gazelle/Campus/Country when I was a lad.

Aye that's what it was. At least 3 at the airport here. And saw loads when on me hols in that there Spain.

On holiday as soon as i venture out from pool activities the trainers are back on. People going on like menopausal women with hot flushes because their feet are a bit warm then wearing socks anyway. Dingbats
