SMB Tennis thread

Gutted for Dan, up 4-2, 5-3 and 2-1 (with a break) in the 3 sets he lost. Will struggle to get a better chance than that to make the 2nd week of Wimbledon, but well done Sousa, great moment for him. Good match. So the last 16 is set on both sides.

Djokovic vs Humbert
Goffin vs Verdasco
Pella vs Raonic
Bautista Agut vs Paire
Querrey vs Sandgren
Sousa vs Nadal
Nishikori vs Kukushkin
Berrettini vs Federer

Barty vs Riske
S Williams vs Suarez Navarro
Strycova vs Mertens
Konta vs Kvitova
Svitolina vs Martic
Muchova vs Ka Pliskova
Halep vs Gauff
Zhang vs Yastremska

All matches to be played on Monday.

Gutted for him?

Not good enough.

Yep, very disappointed for him. Great opportunity for him to make the 4th round, and considering that's supposed to contain 16 of the best/better players in the world, far beyond Dan's career high ranking of 41, that's no mean feat. Sousa kind of did the hard work in getting rid of the top 10 player in the previous round, so fair play to him for backing that win up and moving on to play Nadal.

I hate the no play on middle Sunday. Could have just fancied a full day of tennis tomorrow.

The lad is a chuntering fuckwit coke head, no sympathy from me for him being shite.

Federers match is the stand out one

Manic Monday order of play out already. Gauff back on Court 1. That's not a bad ticket, world #1 Novak, Serena and the new sensation all on the same court. No sign of Andy and Serena's mixed doubles scheduled or TBA, so that will likely be on Tuesday after Serena has played her potential singles quarter final match.

Federers match is the stand out one

Certainly the stand out men's match. Most looking forward to that one on that side as you've either got Rogie through to the quarters again, or if not, it will be an emerging talent creating a big big story. Djokovic vs Felix or Nadal vs Evans would have had a lot of interest as well, but both B side opponents obviously fell in the previous round.

Bad match up in style of play for Evo there, he's a better player than Sousa IMO but it's one of them that just doesn't match up well for Dan.

Like fuck, he’s simply not good enough and lost.

Halep is going to annihilate Gauff.

Are you happy with your line up?.

.
Yes.

Centre Court line up looks good too.
Are you allowed in there if there are empty seats at the end of the day (does anyone know?).

I'm just going to go and enjoy myself and take in as much as I can.

Would love to see Federer but if I don't I'll enjoy who I do see.

Na, the only way you'd be allowed in is if for whatever reason someone on Centre Court left early and handed their ticket into the resale kiosk, but as it's Federer, that's not really going to happen, or you somehow managed to swap with someone who had Centre tickets but was a die hard Nole fan and wanted to see him on C1.

That's the full order of play. You won't be able to see Court 2 11am match (as that's individually tickted), but you will for all of the others. Some of Court 3 is ticketed (about 25%) and the rest is available, but there will be high demand to get on there, but Court 12 and 18 (for the other women's singles) or some of the smaller courts for the junior matches will be much easier, or you could just stroll around the ground.

I'd be chuffed with that line up.

Couldn’t give a shit about him mate, he’s a nobody.

I'm genuinely interested to know if this is a few beers weekend quote or not? Just in case it's not a few bevs type of quote, he's beat Nishikori (in straight sets), Zverev and Cilic in Grand Slam matches before. Match point up against Wawrinka.

Federer regularly chooses to practice with Evo because of how much he rates him. He's even flown him out to practice with him earlier this year.

Best result yesterday was that snide Jay Clarke getting dumped out of the mixed doubles with Gauff in the first round. He made the semi-finals with Dart last year but dumped her (by text!) at the last minute for Gauff, leaving Dart with no time to find a partner. What a cad!

Instant Karma.

My friend went to the final a few years ago. I might try and take my mum next year, thanks for the idea!

We bought our general access tickets in March, not sure if they're available before then. €32 per day. Their superb ticketing system means that a) they have eliminated rip-off resellers and touts and b) you can sell them at any time up to the night before if you can't make it. By the night before you have to allocate a name for each ticket and when you turn up tickets are printed with your name on as long as the name in the system matches your passport. We bought the tickets for Philippe Chartrier at about 10 pm the night before, about €110 each, but were then able to resell our general admission tickets for that day within minutes!

Fognini doesn't helped himself does he? Less than 2 years after the US Open female umpire controversy.
