Anyone think Evans has a chance against Roger? I can see him getting a set, maybe two at a push, but the W might be a stretch.

The Coco Gauff story goes on. I stayed up until about 2.50am last night to see her edge out Babos in a tense 3 set match to set up a very eagerly anticipated 3rd round match with #1 Naomi Osaka - can't wait for that one. With those 2, Andreescu and one of two other U21s who are actually becoming a focal part of these big events, the women's game hasn't been as exciting IMO for around 10 years. Most of them seem to be big characters as well, which is great for generating attention and creating profiles.

I think the majority of exciting 3rd round matches are actually tomorrow, on both sides. The likes of Monfils-Shapo, Krygios-Rublev, maybe even Berrettini-Popyrin. Obviously not helped by Anderson and Raonic pulling out late and being replaced by LLs (who have both made R3), rather than a reshuffling of the seeds, but Isner-Cilic is actually the only men's 3rd round match between seeded players. There's 8/16 in the women's.

This was written before Marco's post.

Great minds.

I'm really hoping you're right but Evans doesn't have much he can damage Federer or Nadal with. Evans and Fed have trained a lot together this year though in their off time, so hopefully Dan can put what he's learned to use.

Looks like you're right. Haven't been able to watch it, but Dan is going to struggle to last 90 minutes here.

Great win for Konta in a match I was quite nervous about. She should have beaten Zhang on paper, but the Chinese player has been in great form at the slams this year and has beaten some very good players after doing virtually nothing on the rest of the tour. 6-2 6-3 in not much more than an hour, so about 2 hours 10 mins in her last 2 matches.

She's faced nobody in the top 30 and it will get tougher from now on - Pliskova next and whoever comes through that 5th section would be extremely tough quarter final opponent (Keys, Svitolina, Kenin, Yastremska), but she's matched her seeding so anything would be a bonus from now, and it would be great if she could get to the quarters so that she will have done so at every slam.

Great match by by federer, gonna be a tough 4th round against Goffin though, don't be surprised if Goffin (assuming he gets through) wins.
Full credit to the demon beating Nishikori

Dont see anything at all to suggest Goffin could beat Federer mind , dependant on Djokovic injury it's either a Nadal Federer final or a Nadal Djokovic final for me.

Rumours that Novak is about to pull out. Was mentioned on this Keys-Kenin match. Not confirmed mind, but would shake things up if it was.

Has drifted out massively on the exchanges so possibly some truth in it, either way something clearly not rite with him, managed to get 13/2 last night for a Nadal Federer final so obviously hoping he does pull out

He kept delaying his practice and Mark Petchey said the talk was he was about to call a press conference to withdraw, but doesn't look to be the case. I'd like someone different to win this, whether it is Fed or Nadal, but I'd rather he was fully fit and taken out by Medvedev or someone, but I guess we'll just have to see what happens - he'll probably still win it without dropping a set  , but whatever is happening, it has made it a bit more interesting.

Djokovic playing, hope he loses

Goffin getting back to his 2017 from where he beat Federer in the atp finals semis

I am in the minority but I have no issue with Djokovic, Federer, or Nadal continuing to win slams. As good as they are I believe the rest just dont want it enough and aren't prepared to put in the work needed to topple them three.

Only slams count really though.

took a set of rafa at the french.
quarters at Wimbledon
Lot of drama over nothing it seems on Djokovic shoulder.
Hope Stan. The man brings his A game and takes him out next round.

On his day Wawrinka was unbeatable, always been a fan of his and would love it if he beat Djokovic but he hasnt been anywhere near that level for a few years now and I would be very surprised if he can ever get back to the level he was at a few years ago.

I've just caught up with the Lopez match and saw this on Twitter and was literally just about to post the same Tweet  , glorious.

Thought it was going to be the usual heat of the moment regarding the finger and what not, best fans in the world etc. then he comes out with that. Class.

Draws can fall apart, and while his run up to now has been pretty kind, IF he ends up playing Wawrinka-Medvedev-Federer-Nadal, then on paper that's the hardest run you can have in this present day. Wawrinka is probably the toughest 17-24 seed, Medvedev is certainly the toughest 5-8 which he had to face in the quarters, and then his bellow big 3 members after that.
Ah, forgot about Anderson withdrawing, so he could have been in line to face a 9-16 seed in the last 16 which brings others into equation, but IMO just his name, and obviously what he has done in the past, and the bigger feel to the match, I'd still say Stan is one of the tougher 9-24 players.

Plenty of good matches today. All 4 night matches look great which is a shame as some will start at 3am here. Quite looking forward to seeing Andreescu-Woz. First real test for Bianca after facing a WC and LL in her first two matches. Gauff-Osaka is the stand out for me too.

Rafa looking great and extremely well rested for the 2nd week. Has a great chance of winning.
us courts have been measured at being slower than some of the clay courts at Roland garros this year  how they've managed to slow these hard courts that much i do not know!
rafa v Cilic
Federer v goffin
Djokovic v wawrinka

some cracking 4th round matches that have been semis and quarters in past years.
zverev managing to get through in 4, if he makes the semis he could be interesting as that would be a 1st.

Osaka was great last night. Competitive first set, but then ran away with it. Another good slam for Gauff, but quite pleased this story ends here, plenty of time for her. Stayed up for most of the night session and have just caught up with the rest of it now. Kyrgios very flat, but another good win for Rublev, and Monfils-Shapovalov was exciting - Denis looked down and out, came storming back to take it to 5, but not quite enough in the end. I was hoping either Kyrgios or Shapo would have taken advantage of this weaker section and made the semi finals, but not to be. So one of Rublev, Berrettini, Monfils or Andujar will be in the semi final now.

The singles' matches are few and far between from now on, but I'd far rather have 8 matches today and 8 on Monday, than a day off and 16 squashed into Monday like Wimbledon. No more evening sesions on Armstrong from now on which is generally good from our persepctive, but arguably the most appealing match of the day will be on around 2am our time (Djokovic).
