Sir Geoff Boycott

A marmite character but the GLY is a big miss for me. People may not always agree with him but he's got an incredible knowledge and thirst for the game.

He's 81 this year and was never going to go on forever, and it made sense to protect him during a pandemic as he'll have been considered extremely vulnerable I'd have thought. It would be a shame if this was the end of him appearing as a summariser but that appears to be the case. COVID was probably the main driver if we are honest, he does not fit the bill of the modern BBC sports pundit.

Real shame - seems as though they've taken the opportunity presented by the pandemic to squeeze him out the back door. I will miss his brilliant knowledge of the game, his general disgust of the modern player scoring more than 1 run per over and of course his on air chemistry with Aggers

I agree with most of that, but the part about Covid I disagree, I think that’s been a very convenient, but false excuse for the BBC and I completely baulk at the idea of ‘modern BBC sports pundit*’.

I want pundits to be picked for their knowledge and capability to do the job. Not for their ‘bantz’ or for how many boxes they can tick.

There is no other pundit in world cricket who can talk about either a batsman’s style, technique and temperament with such eloquence and expertise OR on the state of play and the balance of the game in front of him.

Nobody.

*I know that probably isn’t your opinion/agenda, just a statement of how it works presently.

I think it has been a convenient excuse. They needed to protect him during the pandemic, but not get rid of him completely.

There's lots of things I dislike about Boycott but I did enjoy him on TMS.

Give me him over Swann or Vaughan any day of the week. The dynamic between him and Aggers was great.

It's shit to lose him and Blowers in such as a short period of time.
As much as Blowers part of the "charm" of TMS (albeit I hear he's a bit of a shit in real life) I couldn't follow his commentary for the last couple of years as he was always so far behind the play

Can't stand Swann or Vaughan
