Since Nottingham Forest thrashing

Do you think regis changed something in the forest game and it never came off, tweaked it for all those games after and success
There were rumours of a virus going around the club during that time. Not sure how true that was but I know Reinaldo had been out with illness around that time

As a historian I am bit surprised you are so forthright about the consequences of such an action

Good point; but I save the maybe’s, to an extent’s, perhaps’, most likely’s etc., for the classroom and when i’m writing.

Football is my escape, sometimes you just want to switch off, moaning about football on a forum allows you to do that

It's proper encouraging.

We dealt with AFCON (which we will have to do again), we dealt with injuries to key players, we dealt with stupid suspensions and in our first season we qualify for the Europa league and without the above, may have got Champions League.

Next season will be more of a challenge. We could be facing around 60 games however, there will be a raft of new arrivals to boost the squad further. Get recruitment and crucially retention right and the sky really is the limit.
AFCON is in the summer going forward i believe. Or at least the next one is so wont impact the club season

it feels weird to me, everyone wrote off Europe weeks ago. It feels like nobody even thought about Europe, or really believed it, till suddenly, with just 1 game left, all we had to do was win. It was like a cup final that nobody really saw coming.
That made it even better I think, no one deep down thought we'd do it, not with Man Utd, Everton and Chelsea coming

60 games but no AFCON in the middle this coming season.

The forest game was like a nice little reminder of the old Sunderland having one last outing, before we went where no other Sunderland team had gone before

Dont get me wrong… world leaders like the current POTUS ( surrounded by Ivy League alumni ) forget about skirmishes/wars in the not to distant past and repeat same mistakes and go on same insane ego trips, so …
50/50 chance your assertion would have come to fruition
