What is clear is that the people chosen to lead the recruitment operations failed under the conditions that prevailed. My own opinion is that they failed because of their approach (contacts led as per Donald’s many statements). And it can’t be an impossible task because 10 or so clubs have been proven to have done the same thing better since we’ve been in league one. They may be able to perform better with more money available but the fundamental error of their approach will remain - and will reduce the effectiveness of this cash injection. Also, this demonstrates that Donald was unable to get Safc out of league one on his own. That’s a savage indictment of his chosen strategy.I don't think there is any dispute that the scouting, recruitment and the Academy development has been poor for some considerable time. What is not so certain is whether or not the people working in those areas are not up to the job or whether they have been restricted in their efficiency by fiscal and other constraints.
Whilst we don't yet know the details,it seems as though this investment will be specifically targeting these clearly underachieving areas. If that is correct it may be that it enables performances from all concerned to be significantly improved.? I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being.
That said, we can't focus all our attention on it....we have to get out of this league this year, and January may be interesting.
You're making things up based on a line the biggest bullshitter Sunderland has seen since Wearside Jack fed you yesterday afternoon. Where the fuck was this plan 18 months ago? They're making it up as they go along man, and d'ya kna why? Cos they haven't got a bastard clue and they had even less real money. The plan is that they're rebuilding the club from bare bones after stripping everything back to a financially stable level to attract investors, which they have just succeeded in attracting. It'll be something along the lines of:
Phase 1: Make the club financially stable by stripping out all the deadwood. Attract Investors.
Phase 2: Use the invested money to rebuild the parts of the club that most need investment and will most help us achieve our long-term aim of being competitive in the Premier League, such as massively upscaling the scouting network along with improving youth recruitment and youth development. Essentially, start building for the future. Get promoted.
Phase 3 (probably): Bring in more investment to spend on the playing squad with our new recruitment team in place, transition, get promoted again.
Phase 4 (probably): Bring in more investment to spend on the playing squad, transition, get into Europe.
Phase 5 (probably): Profit. Wins. Major trophies.
I don't give a stuff if we spend another TWO years in League 1 if this investment in scouting and youth recruitment and development starts paying off properly and giving us cheap as chips amazing young players coming through the ranks along with buying the right players to eventually take us up and either be a success for us further up the leagues or be sold for a profit.
Bring it on!
That’s a false dichotomy, mind.Owning a company and wanting to lose weight are two very different things. If anything it's more like repainting the walls inside your house. You have a choice, just paint over the top of the stuff that's there, which is quicker and cheaper but will mean you'll suffer greater problems in the future, or you can strip the existing paper and start again, which takes longer and costs you slightly more money at first but means that things will be better in the future.
Both are acceptable routes with their own pros and cons. They've taken the latter route. That's fine with me.
Cracking post that.This.
@fyl2u ... the club has a plan? Then what is it? 18 months ago we were supposed to be looking at promotion at the first attempt with the biggest budget ever and no other investment was required 'cos Donald apparently had millions more than was being reported. Then they're talking about 100 point targets whilst scrounging around for investors whilst neglecting the bloke they kept faith in from last season, only to sack him off after 11 games into the season with a mediocre squad and the side languishing in mid table. Now all of a sudden they have big plans again thanks to somebody else fronting a bit of cash, but unfortunately we're already miles behind. What if this manager and this squad can't turn this season around? Another season in League fuckin' 1. Great.
This brings me back to Rocky's comments. I'm sick and tired too. How patient are we supposed to be? This club has never spent longer than 5 years outside of the top flight - never more than 1 outside the top two divisions 'til now. Well we're bang on course to break that little record aren't we. My father's 62 year old - he's thinking he might never see us in the Premier League again.
financia side..which is what investors care most about.safc is among the winners in the english game right now..certainly outside the top flight. So why the fuck are they backing SAFC, we excel at losing..![]()

As above - where is this plan? Where was this plan 18 months ago? Why wasn't the plan set out and made crystal clear to every Sunderland fan in the spirit of transparency which they were supposedly very good for.Good comeback. Great point well made. You have now convinced me. I am no longer happy with the announcement that the owners of the club have brought in new investment from some incredibly rich people. I am outraged that they had to dissemble our previous shite pisstaking scouting network in order to rebuild it. Absolutely outraged.

the plan 18 month ago was to get the club financially stable while also spending more than all our rivals put together..they did thatYou're making things up based on a line the biggest bullshitter Sunderland has seen since Wearside Jack fed you yesterday afternoon. If the original intent was to make us financially stable by cutting everything back to bare bones so that they could rebuild it themselves with a firm plan in mind and the right people in the right jobs, then I can't see what the problem is. The club was haemorrhaging money a couple of years ago. It needed to be cut back to the point of being able to pay for itself in order to look good for investors. We now have the investors we were coveting and because of their input we can start building things back up again.
Patience, man. It's a virtue, and it gets rewarded. The club has a plan here. The bumpy bit is almost over. Chill out and enjoy the rest of the ride.
they said 18 months ago they would cut things back achive financila stability but provide a budget the highest in this league and higehr than a few clubs in the league above, while keeping the academy at category one level..As above - where is this plan? Where was this plan 18 months ago? Why wasn't the plan set out and made crystal clear to every Sunderland fan in the spirit of transparency which they were supposedly very good for.

Very very unfair this like.
Can you remember the basket case the club was after the championship season relegation. The club leaking money left right and centre, players on huge earnings who didn't give a shit etc etc
That’s a false dichotomy, mind.
It's exactly what they detailed when they first arrived man! They said "the pisstake party stops here" and detailed the ways the club were wasting money including scouts taking the piss with their expenditures. They always said they'd be looking to bring in more investors in the future and that more money would be spent on the club later.
I've seen no evidence at all that either of CM or SD are "bullshitters" as you put it. All I see is a couple of guys rebuilding our club in the manner they always said they would.
Promotion may well have take a season (or possibly two) more than they and we had hoped, but the rest of the plan appears to me to be still in place. Bring it on! Stage 2!
We're a mid table League 1 club 18 months into their tenure. Fairness isn't on the table.Very very unfair this like.

i agree with this..and i think its a mixture of both the owners not been clear deliberately..of stewrat speaking without notes and not being a details guy so the communication being unintentionally unclear..and fans interepeting thinsg as they want to to suit whatever they want to hear..its definitely all threeethere has been a lot of evidence that what has been said by the owners in podcasts, interviews or podcasts has not necessarily been entirely accurate. Whether that is by accident or design is down to people’s own sensibilities and how they interpret the situation, but to say there hasn’t been anything that equates to bullshit or bluster is a bit naive imo.
