Do you really think Mig would have made much of a difference to our current position...........good though he is the problems far greater and its a culmination of a nutter in charge,a defence that's shite ( westwood aint the problem) and the fixtures computer tearing us a new arsehole....
And those three players will in the very near future depart for pastures new and shit on their clubs............its what footballers do as they have all the power...............

i think that most points won at this level of sport are usually settled by very fine margins. i think westwood is a decent keeper who can do a decent job. mig was capable of doing the same job and on occasions go the little bit extra to make up that fine margin and actually influence the outcome of some games.
No matter how much money they have teams can only field eleven players at once so the ones in the top 10% of ability are priced exponentially higher than others. It literally cost millions of £ extra for every 1% increase in quality above a certain level.

I don't think we benefitted at all from selling mig for £9million and i said so at the time. Even if we are going to sell our best players it has to be on our terms with the odds stacked in our favour.

True but we still got the 7th highest fee for a keeper ever..............and were never going to get the £15-£20 million bandied about on here mate..................and if the Mig moneys what bought the Italian dwarf then what may have been sacrificed at one end of the pitch has probably been offset at the other end..............if we sort the shambles that's our defence in front of the keeper out....

i like the look of giac roberge and celustka , unfortunately we have gifted fulham and palace 3 points and with the games v ars manu and the scousers we have left ourselves with a mountain to climb , i hope poyet first and foremost sorts the defence out as it is costing us big style , with fletcher due back we will score goals its those nuggets at the back and its expected in every game we will cock up amateurishly

I was never interested what he was worth to liverpool, only what he was worth to us and that will prove to be more than £9million.

to put it another way. only a few years ago we were prepared to gamble £9million for goalkeeper (gordon) in the "hope" that he would do well at this level. i.e. we took a punt at £9mill.
when we actually had a keeper who was good at this level we sold him for £9million. there's no logic whatsoever.

some of the shambles could be pinned to the defence but some of it could also be pinned on a keeper who doesn't command his immediate area, never mind the six yard box.

You get what hes worth in the transfer market and we got the 7th highest fee for a keeper ever....Gordon was an excellent keeoer whose careet was ruined by injury and we will never know how good he could have become....gordon wasn't a punt at all..injuries ruined the lad.

And as his deal involved add ons I doubt we paid the full fee...
 
Have to say I mostly agree with the club's transfer policy this summer. The old methods were neither working nor sustainable. They had to change. Looking for value elsewhere and controlling the costs so that the extra TV revenue can go to safeguarding the financial health of the club was the right call I think. Still think it was right to sell Sessegnon, though I was disappointed to see Mignolet go. We got a fair price for him, mind.

It's far too early to be performing postmortems though. None of us will be in a position to judge either the policy or its execution until next summer. If we are a Premier League club, it has been vindicated. If not... well I haven't a scoobies where we stand going forward.

Paying the likes of bardsley in excess of 30k is quite alarming who sanctioned those wages

then we shouldn't have sold mig which is what i said in the first place. i'm not interested in his market value, only his value to us while he's still under contract. based on the risk of what we have to lose mig is worth more than £9million. we'll see if ellis agrees when he gets his first championship pay packet.

i say gordon was a punt because he came from a lower standard so nothing was guaranteed when he stepped up. many players in scotland look good but soon look out of their depth even in the championship. in mig we had a keeper who looked high level in the PL and sold him for that same price for one we took a "punt" on.
For the record and aside from this discussion i thought gordon was a very good keeper and if things had gone differently i think he would've been every bit as good as mig. that wasn't a guarantee when we signed him though.

The view on whether Drummaville would / could have done any better remains an opinion though. So what about the good decisions Short has made that are still good decisions? His choice of managers has not so far proven to be anything but poor based on the rate that he is sacking them. His choice of Di Fanti has yet to show anything of significant benefit. I don't think that seriously flirting with relegation three seasons in a row suggest that he has got many (if any) decisions right.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Short, I just think he is not a good chairman for us. In terms of football philosophy, what does our club stand for, what vision has he set out to achieve? Is it Bruce style, MON style, PDC style (whatever the fook that was)? Is it now to be Poyet's possession game? That will require another major squad overhall for a start. Now I'm getting depressed.

I'm embarrassed that only the top 4, villa and the mags have spent more money than us in prem history

and we have fuck all to show for it and looking at a 4th relegation...

Ellis has spent a lot, but got little return on his investment. Don't blame him for not wanting to spend, history would show that spending money is not the answer to our problems.. it's what we're spending with that money.

Even this season with cut costs.. we still managed a load of flops.. ffs man
