Have to say Brandon should have done the sensible thing and called the game off as play was never going to be complete with the weather we had yesterday.
You can say they should have turned up but its lads weekends and most people want to enjoy them instead of travelling around and waiting for the inevitable postponment of the match.
If lads are not prepared to turn up and wait about they shouldn't be playing cricket it's part of the game. Every effort should be made to play, ok we are top and desperate to get on, but we always made every effort when we were bottom you can ask anybody. It was the umpires call and they said it was fit to start Shildon didn't want to play so hadn't bothered to turn up. How can that be allowed to happen ? If there are no consequences what's the point of having a rule book.

I know what you're saying mate, rules are rules at the end of the day but even if you had started, you wouldn't have been on the pitch long enough to get grass stains on your whites. Saturday afternoon was terrible here and it was well known down here as early as 9am when I went down to have a look at the wicket that it wasn't going to happen. Fair enough, the lads, technically, should have turned up but they would have been wasting their time as you lot did.
so in your league the only person who can call a game off is the umpires?
i called ours off today, because no one else would play in the rain:-(

Brandon has answered this
In this situation it was the umpires call and not Shildons
