Sheffield Shield

NSW are playing Western Australia in the final. It's day 5 of 5 tomorrow and it's looking like a draw.

Am I right in saying that NSW will win the Shield because they'll secure a 'winning draw' ?? Having scored 400+ on first innings and skittled WA for 180 - apparently that'll be enough to win them it should the game end in a draw........

What a f***ing shit system that is! They're 59-3 in second innings and according to one report I read WA can only win if they skittle NSW in the morning and proceed to chase down the eventual total somewhere upwards of 350.

Backward Aussies
Who cares???????????

Re quality of the shield, it's generally accepted that it is no longer even close to the quality it was. Pitch preperation is often cited with a very few big hundreds scored. The second string comp was at one point ridiculously strong but this has been ruined by some rule about under 25s in each side leading to a fall in intensity.

County champs is slated in this country but more highly thought of abroad. Most top players over last 50+ years have played in it as its helped them complete a massive part of their cricket education. Was in maurittious a few years ago watching SA's Super sports and all pundits on there accepted it as the best donestic comp in world cricket

A league format or just play until it's won...... 5/6/7 days. Why not?

Aleem, you have to admit its a bit shit when you don't necessarily have to get 20 wickets. For me there's more skill in taking 20 wickets over 4 days than scoring 500 first up for example.
To be fair a lot of championship matches are won by teams not taking 20 wickets, due to declarations brought on by lack of time.

Since it moved to 4 days it's naturally meant more results. Then as I alluded to before - teams are following the Durham lead of preparing result pitches. The ECB moved to reward wins with more points than previously and I think that's meant teams pushing for wins more.

We won 10 of our 16 games last year which IIRC equalled a record for wins in a Championship season (Middlesex being the other).
