Sheff Wed - financial issues

The thing is football is broken, it’s pretty much not sustainable outside of the premier league but the big clubs won’t allow football to be fully regulated because it doesn’t suit the top lot. I mean if it were don’t think Chelsea would’ve gotten away with the creative stuff they e done the past few years 😂 selling the women’s side for £200m etc. it’s going one way and we will see many more burys in the future. However players have also brought it on themselves let’s be honest the biggest cost in football is player wages we’ve went from the top stars getting good wages to now bang average players making ten times the average fans weekly wage even at championship level. It can’t go on much longer and with the premier league trying to make it a closed shop I fear the pyramid as it is won’t be the same in 20 years.
When Russia was placed on the naughty step the UK government hopped into bed with the Middle East to fill the black holes left by the withdrawal of Russian money into the UK and in particular London. Our Ex Russian buddies bought property and some football clubs, the Saudis want more in return. I ll eat my hat if the premier league isn’t a state owned closed shop within the next 10-15 years. The American owners will lap it up and accept The Saudi ownership for that reason alone.

Clubs in freefall, I honestly wouldn'tbe surprised if we dropped to league 1 next year , and further the season after.
We have a manager who wants out, and his backroom staff who are out of contract next week, players haven't been paid ..again, and the EFL do sod all about the "Fit and proper persons" laws, even though our Chairman fails with this time after time.
The highest priced season tickets in the division go on sale at Christmas ..The money runs out before the season ends..Chansiri says its "Cashflow" problem...course it is...he's spent it..and theres nothing coming in now.
You got fans clinging on to rumours like sodding shipwrecked sailors...Latest one on Owlstalk?....Bloke in a pub got told by a barmaid we are getting taken over next week..Oh well thank f.ook for that I can stop worrying!
I can copewith disa;ppointment , its the sodding hope that drags yer heart out...I would take League 1 and 2 to get rid of this clown, whats another few years of being treated like twats?...we've had a quarter of a century standing for it.
Owls fans have had a few days celebrating what you lot did to United,,,,,Instead of focusing on what this idiot incumbent is doing to us....Its like dancing on the tracks with yer backs to the train coming...

I feel your time will come mate, I honestly do.

I just hope if it ever does come to that we are at least part of the closed shop.

It’s mad when I watched that Burnley doc and the Americans didn’t know they could be relegated. This wasn’t pre takeover this was them in the building having bought in. That’s insane man, just because American has a monopoly on their sports they must assume the rest of the world works in the same way. Agree they will love it if relegation is taken off the table. I was listening to a football podcast and they brought up that it only takes 14 of the 20 clubs to vote on new rules and Americans either own or have massive shares in 12 clubs. I’m hoping the government would block any shit like that it’s anti competition for example but you never know with these governments.

The Government will likely do what they're told, which is what happened when the mags were bought out. I'm aghast that it hasn't been further scrutinised and simply brushed under the carpet. Perhaps pressure will mount if the mags continue to reach finals, compete at the top and likely win trophies.

We must have been very close back in the day.
Crazy to think how quickly the new owner has turned it around and we are financially stable
Charlie Methven still claiming the glory for turning it round.
On second thoughts, maybe he did by selling ing it to Kyril Loius-Dreyfus. Or was that Donald?

"Fit and Proper Person Test".
It's a sham, clearly not fit for purpose.

The terrible thing is that not only have we fans been beaten to the point that we just end up accepting this shit, but also the sheer number of clubs supporters who can tell the same / similar story about being owned by a succession of egotistical idiots who don't have the clubs best interests at heart.

As a side point I read your match day thread - I have to say I enjoyed reading your lots enjoyment as the match unfolded.

I think that some like me would rather they all fucked off to the ESL that the now 8 game Champions League is becoming and left the English football to reset itself in a way to try to keep it more competitive. If people want to be part of the closed shop then expect fans to pay top dollar for tickets as the fans will be milked as much as they can to pay the millions to the players.

The mags are finding this out now as I said in other threads with the price increases, less concessions and smaller areas, fans being moved, limited season ticket sales and then sell the remaining tickets in ballots. Leeds also do this and I think a few more clubs do it as they know demand exceeds supply. Many clubs don't give a shit about legacy fans getting to see the game, they just want those willing to pay the most.

I love your posts mate, always well considered and interesting. I can tell you're big on detail, no doubt will be part of your day job I bet

This is exactly why I’m a big fan of what they’ve done so far and how they’ve run the place. I hope promotion and extra revenue doesn’t mean we just start throwing money at it like we did under Short. Recipe for disaster if it goes wrong. It isn’t being unambitious, I am ambitious and want us to do as well as we can. I just want us to be run well and sensibly so we never find ourselves in that situation again. It was after all exactly what sent us to the third division and nobody wants that again surely.
The first time we ended up in Division 3 in 1987 was because we threw money at McMenemy, i've always hated the club going into spend, spend, spend mode, it NEVER ends well.

Well yeah mate.....I did enjoy the play off game...Same as any Blade would have enjoyed the play off semi we had the other year....but I'll be honest, any Owls fan who wouldn't take what The Blades have had last few years..is a fooking idiot

Cheers and nice to know someone reads what I say and appreciate it  It's more just hating the money in footy that means it isn't like it used to be even if the quality is better. It isn't all about the quality on the pitch at Sunderland as going to the match is not just about winning every game and titles. If it was then why do some clubs who win nowt still have passionate fans that go week in week out?

I wasn't this bothered too much about the money but Rodwell on £10,000s a week (£60-£80k wasn't it?) strolling about in our midfield and being part of the problem of overpaying players was the start of it.

I'm laughing at the mags now paying the price for 'getting their club back' as some of those happy with the takeover may well have been moved or priced out after coming off the far cheaper 10 year season ticket fix Ashley gave them. I can laugh as it's them but they're not the only club it's happened to and I just hope we don't go down the same route as I also said similar in this post.

Most of those fans going to Sheff Wed go because they love the club and want to support it no matter what. They're not some plastic glory seeking atmosphere sucking fan who will play on their phone or post they're at the match on social media looking for like or just go to the odd few bigger games. It's part of the reason why you see empty seats and Man City/Arsenal etc with very poor atmospheres for long periods of the game as people who would go can't afford the stupidly high prices even if people resell tickets.

There's nowt a specialist payroll team can do for you if the money's not there.
Exactly, the payroll will have been run and the FPS submitted to HMRC. The actual payment run to the employees on the other hand, er, just hang fire on that will you please Sandra we might need to try and shuffle some cash around, when we find some.

Would they get hit with a big points deduction? They’ve got previous for this sort of thing I think?

Massive shame like. That owner is an arsehole.
