Selling a domain name

I bought a .com domain name 12 years ago for sentimental reasons at a premium price.

Through the years I’ve received offers and inquireries about it quite a few times, but just ignored them. 2 months ago I was contacted by a company (well known/respected) acting on behalf of a client offering a substantial amount, but I turned that down too.

Yesterday they came back with an offer over the phone which (if true) would be crazy to reject.

Have anybody gone through a process like this and have any advice to offer? The procedure includes payment through escrow.com and the broker is verifiably a serious company (they won’t disclose their clients name).

There’s bound to be solicitors out there that specialise in these type of purchases & similar? Not sure where to find them, but I’d be starting to look for them.

Speak to a solicitor and sell the fucker

Put it out to auction

1: I will of course :)

2: The offer is conditional on me not offering the domain to others, i.e. no auction

It might not be worth much now Google don't use the domain name as a ranking factor.

Well obviously it is to somebody. I don't know how Google ranking works

Advice taken!

Sounds crazy to do anything other than counter offer.

How big was the increase between their first and 2nd offer? (In %s if you don't want to disclose actual numbers)

Go back to them asking for at least the same again. Domain names are vital in online businesses and when some of the businesses are going for hundreds of millions/billions an extra £100k for a domain may be peanuts to them.
