Selling a domain name

I bought a .com domain name 12 years ago for sentimental reasons at a premium price.

Through the years I’ve received offers and inquireries about it quite a few times, but just ignored them. 2 months ago I was contacted by a company (well known/respected) acting on behalf of a client offering a substantial amount, but I turned that down too.

Yesterday they came back with an offer over the phone which (if true) would be crazy to reject.

Have anybody gone through a process like this and have any advice to offer? The procedure includes payment through escrow.com and the broker is verifiably a serious company (they won’t disclose their clients name).
IP lawyer is what you want. There’s a few in Newcastle.

Someone from Dubai once offered to buy my Twitter handle. He got properly arsey when I wouldn't sell and told me I wasn't popular enough or famous enough to have it.
As a negotiating tactic it wasn't the best approach so I told him it wouldn't be fair on my fans and ended the negotiations.
da'main Da'name is that the new fast bowler for Durham CCC

The increase was 300%

Good stuff mate. Maybe don't ask for the same again then but shows they are really keen to get it.

I'd be tempted to go back to them with a counter offer 50% above their current offer and says it's theirs for £x.

(Goes without saying, speak to an intellectual property lawyer today/tomorrow before actually going back to the broker)

Also do some research on the 'thing' in the domain. If it relates to something that is attractive to competitors then it leaves you in a better position, if it's very specific to a particular company then it's not great as you don't have a fall back.

And as others said, buy the .net as well

(And should also go without saying, don't put the domain on here before you get the cash in the bank)

How much did that go for?
