That's simply opportunity cost. The clubs don't actually lose anything, It's simply potential income they're not getting. There are benefits to the teams attributed the highest "loss" - they actually have the greatest ability to increase revenue streams from improved attendances. Clubs like Luton are at the limit of their potential revenue, and are therefore constrained. The article makes it look as though empty seats are a bad thing, whereas they can represent a business opportunity not available to clubs close to capacity every week.

Agreed, it makes it look like Luton with their 10k stadium will steal a march on us 'cos we are likely to have around 10k unsold seats every game, whereas the truth is we will generate much more income from the 35k+ that we get in through the turnstiles.

Are they getting primary school kids to come up with ideas for articles now. The key figure is how many people come through the gate. The fact that clubs with top flight histories have larger grounds, hence more empty seats is a pointless one.
