Scotty Borthwick - Is He A Genuine #3?

one thing worth remembering though is that test sides play on spin friendly pitches alot more than county sides
Good point - you're also up against the best in the World at test level as opposed to run of the mills and up and coming with the occasional top class spinner.

Cook, Bell, Ballance, Root, Ali, Stokes, Prior, Broad, Jordan, Anderson

for me I just cant decide who should open with Cook...

tbh i wouldn't want to see such a bat heavy side, if that is more or less the line up [and it looks good] i would probably persevere with root opening and bring in a spinning alrounder. can't thin of any of the top of me heed tho

true, although i would counter that by saying if borthwick doesn't play against the best in the world we'll never see how good he can be.

who expected stokes to do as well as he did in aus?

Not so much expectation, but my goodness how did I hope ....... trouble is we need him at Durham anarl!

Root has a massive technical flaw on the front foot, I don't see how he can possibly open myself.

People are right saying he won't be dropped, but he should be under pressure, there seems to be an assumption in the media that he is just an automatic pick, his record really shouldn't allow for that. I think he should be under pressure in the ODIs anyway.

aye, agreed. we all knew he has shed loads of talent but you can never be sure how players will respond to situations. tbf i think most of us knew stokes is the right sort of lad to respond to challenges but still fuck me what a relevation.

and thats what i mean, without sticking them in these situations you just cant know.

aye, just stuck him in there as i have no idea who else would open, perhaps robson or ali? not seen that much of either to know tbh my main point was that i wouldn't want prior coming in at 8 and have so few bowling options.

Yeah you are right, not saying I wouldn't pick him either, just think he should be under pressure, I think he has lost his way a bit, since that 180 he has averaged 27. I think he should play middle order, he plays spin very well, he just doesn't look like an opener to me.

Just had a special on Jordan Henderson on Look North. Didn't new him and Borthwick were in the same year at school and on the same football team. Class.
