In the absence of a decent spinner. Yestrusting root and ali for spin?
Oh good I would be so disillusioned if Carberry got picked, he isn't good enough IMO.
Root is the one who should be worried IMO
Too well liked- won't be dropped.
You get the impression that England view Scotty as a bowling all rounder, where we know it is more the opposite.
Good point - you're also up against the best in the World at test level as opposed to run of the mills and up and coming with the occasional top class spinner.one thing worth remembering though is that test sides play on spin friendly pitches alot more than county sides
you predicted about 2 year ago that he would be a regular in the test side "soon"
"he'll be fast tracked"
turned out to be spot on!!
not many international teams have world lass spinnersGood point - you're also up against the best in the World at test level as opposed to run of the mills and up and coming with the occasional top class spinner.
Cook, Bell, Ballance, Root, Ali, Stokes, Prior, Broad, Jordan, Anderson
for me I just cant decide who should open with Cook...
whos your spinning alroundertbh i wouldn't want to see such a bat heavy side, if that is more or less the line up [and it looks good] i would probably persevere with root opening and bring in a spinning alrounder. can't thin of any of the top of me heed tho

Not so much expectation, but my goodness how did I hope ....... trouble is we need him at Durham anarl!read the next sentence, all will be revealed
true, although i would counter that by saying if borthwick doesn't play against the best in the world we'll never see how good he can be.
who expected stokes to do as well as he did in aus?

Root has a massive technical flaw on the front foot, I don't see how he can possibly open myself.
People are right saying he won't be dropped, but he should be under pressure, there seems to be an assumption in the media that he is just an automatic pick, his record really shouldn't allow for that. I think he should be under pressure in the ODIs anyway.
aye, agreed. we all knew he has shed loads of talent but you can never be sure how players will respond to situations. tbf i think most of us knew stokes is the right sort of lad to respond to challenges but still fuck me what a relevation.
and thats what i mean, without sticking them in these situations you just cant know.
aye, just stuck him in there as i have no idea who else would open, perhaps robson or ali? not seen that much of either to know tbh my main point was that i wouldn't want prior coming in at 8 and have so few bowling options.
Mods; Ban this tragic bellendgood player is scott. he was doing some bowling in the nets with a ecb rep a couple of weeks ago
