SAFC v Palace FA cup 1976

Wish there were a few of him around now, today's managers are corporate, cardboard cut outs.

His replacement, big Jim Holton, wasn't up to much ...
Six foot two, eyes of blue big Jim Holton's after you. Colossal.
If Cirkin or Home defended like that in a critical game their reputation would be sullied for ever
Great marauding full back in his day, positionally suspect but Moncur was known mainly for towing caravans

I was a big Jim Holton fan, but he was soon moved on.
Just a lad so he may have had technical limitations I couldn’t see

Was in Clock Stand seats with my Dad. Gutted - especially after scrapping so hard to get past Stoke in round five. Went down with the Travel Club for the original tie. Huge following there. Monty played a blinder.

I remember standing in the Roker end with me Da when Malcolm Allison was parading around in his big hat 😆. Jeez… 50 years ago 😬

Remember standing at the top of the stairs at the back of the fulwell watching hundreds of palace supporters running down the street opposite as the special they had got off at seaburn was slightly delayed and they missed the KO.

Was my first ever game. My uncle took me.
That was it I had the bug. 2nd was then midweek against Bristol City a couple of weeks later

Best reception I have ever heard for a Sunderland player. Billy Hughes was back as sub after a long term injury. In the pre- match warm up which started 10 mins before kick off in those days, the Fulwell started singing Billy’s song:

Oh Billy, Billy,
Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy Hughes

Hughes acknowledged the Fulwell with a wave as usual but the song just didn’t stop. It went on and on until Hughes just dropped to his knees looking towards the Fulwell. A special moment I remember 50 years on.😉
