Getting very anxious now. The press said the same thing two weeks ago. It would be toward the end of next week - likely Friday and they then said last week it would be toward the end of next week - likely Friday.

Now this from the Shields Gazette today

John Phelan, Robert Platek and Glenn Fuhrman are set to finalise their takeover of Sunderland in the coming days - but it won’t be their first involvement in the sporting world.

Let’s be honest here. If it hadn’t been for those two none of this would be happening. I’m sure there are posters that would rather gouge out their own eyeballs with a rusty teaspoon than admit it. But the facts speak for themselves.

People are too attached to their opinions like. That's why you see the same names spinning things in a way to make SD and CM look like "chancers", because they can't admit any good they do.

Never could, and never will be able to understand that mate. If they adopt the same approach to everyday life it must be incredibly stressful and unrewarding.

What about phased funding? i.e. 5 million sponsorship for the remainder of the season in this league, 15 million the season after etc, as long as theres an incremental perceived profit to be had

Doesn't work, the ability to effectively give a gift only exists in the league one version of FFP. Once you're in the championship it isn't permitted so if we were gifted £50m but, excluding that gift, our outgoings were £30m more than the other incomings, they'd treat it as a £30m loss for FFP as opposed to a £20m profit

Can you not sponsor the stadium name in the Champoinship like? Sorry... just seems a bit daft you can have all this money in League one and it would count for nowt until you actually got promoted

Aye we could sponsor the stadium, although I think there's rules about how much we can get paid for it! Its just gifts of cash we can't do in the championship. Hell, when all is said and done that's pretty much why FFP exists, to prevent any upstarts buying their way to the top table. They say it's about ensuring a level playing field etc but really they want to stop the likes of man united from breaking away by pretty much guaranteeing them their status; based on football income they'll always have a massive advantage due to CL money. They will do as much as they can to stop others competing. Luckily there will always be ways around it and I'm sure we'll find some

Could "the club", under it's new ownership, buy businesses to give it a higher income? Sort of how SD was talking about mortgaging the SoL and buying hotels (an example) could increase incomings, but without the mortgage?

Bit like a non commissioned rank wins the lottery.. rather than promoting him to sit at the officers table (because he now has potentially an edge over them and has never been part of their club) they ask him to politely leave

What like buy St James and renting it back to the mags

That's a good shout. Only let them have it back after every SoL season ticket holder has curled one out on the Sid James' seat of their choice.

Surely the fact we have no sponsorship deals in place for next season regarding the shirt, the stadium, the academy, training gear, etc. will provide plenty of opportunities to pump in cash. It will also be interesting to see what comes of the Derby and Villa situations where they sold their stadiums.

First part of the trick is to get them onboard and I am sure that with their backgrounds they will not have been idle in planning how to move forward . They would probably have been looking for someone to guide them through what they can and can't do to avoid future problems to stay within the EFL1 rules as well as the Championship rules relating to FFP . I am sure that the legal eagles and monetary experts they can call on have been looking for ways during the due diligence been carried out formulating plans that can be actioned as soon as they take over . Exciting times are getting closer and closer . Bring it on !

Me neither, when Bruce had us 6th with Bent banging them in for fun we wasnt hitting 40k.

Im sure that was the start of Short hitting the breaks a bit with spending.
Quinny no doubt sold him the line if we get 40k at the bottom just imagine what we could get if we are top 6.
In actual fact there wasnt much difference in crowd size which really, proves how loyal the support is winning or losing.

Our average that year was 40,011 like.

T'interweb can be a fantastic thing at times, but a bastard at others. I'm in Greece on holiday at the minute, and I remember the time the only info you got was from the Dailly Mirror each morning. Now, you can check up 24/7 just like you can at home if you want to.

I'm not that sad like, just look in a couple of times a day to pass time at the pool 😎
