SAFC Takeover Latest

He has had the best of intentions however there has to be serious questions asked about the long term thinking regarding the footballing side. Short termist recruitment and the academy isn't in great shape.

Two questions; What state did they inherit? and, How long has he been at the club?

I think people forget just what a mess the playing side was in. We've had to overall the entire football operation and it takes time. I would class it as being finally 'stable' again and we are now looking to build on top further for the long term with the new investment. SD clearly said he realised this hence seeking investment.

He's done a brilliant job in the short space of time he has been with us that will hopefully continue further in the right direction for the long-term.

I put it on this thread weeks ago n got slated. Also about the Megastore they want build on Audi site. Waste time posting stuff on here now though.
Anyone who posts rumours will get slated on here because 99% of rumours, posted in good faith or not, turn out to be bollocks. Don’t take it so personally

This line is such nonsense like.

He sold maja, panicked and over paid by 3 million on Will Grigg

Its a nice line that people use but its irrelevant

The recruitment and investment, in the team and in the football and scouting system has been minimal bar that panic buy, we have skeleton staff, and he seems happy enough to be a league one club.

I don't see what his plan was?

Why is Richard Hill making any football decisions at SAFC, makes no sense to me

Sorry but he isn't doing a good job, he may be a nice guy and have good intentions, but he doesn't know football, and we are desperate for the new owners to bring their own chief executive and football men in

We need that more than any money for transfers or anything
I agree with this mind. Donald has saved a lot of money - so stabilised is in that way- but there has been the inevitable huge decline in quality at all levels of football alongside. It’s why I retain some sympathy for Ross. It’s easy to trot out the ‘spent more than any other side in the division’ narrative but ‘reducing outgoings more than any other club in history’ is probably as close to the truth - you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. This takeover and investment is timely because footballing wise we’re stretched. We think our squad is the best but fans are blinkered and longer term the good players are off to better run clubs. Hopefully our potential will pull us back some credibility because financial survival and investment readiness has made us crap at football from the school aged up to the adults.

The problem is that the overhaul needed strategy. We’ve taken a blank slate and used it to turn us from an ageing championship side into an ageing league one side. Ok we had to plug a few gaps but o’nein and Dobson aside we’ve just created more problems for ourselves. Problems everyone but the board, recruitment team and a very positive section of our support saw coming a mile off.

In a league where the average transfer spend is nothing even spending £1m is a lot. I don’t disagree we had to invest further and on a different type of player but it isn’t rubbish to say the budget we had was far more than anyone else.

I thought that is why we have a lot of short term contracts at this level, which is the norm? Do we have many long term contracts currently? (I don't know for sure, but would be interesting to look at)

He wants a handshake and crown though. 👑
Nowt even happened yet, whatever he’s heard might still turn out bollocks but he’s already feeling vindicated.

They’re definitely the saving grace. Problem is they weren’t balanced with longer term signings. We’re going to have another complete overhaul next summer, potentially at this level. Was hoping we’d spend a bit on players we felt we could develop and make the step up with us.

The academy is very worrying, some of the results all across the age group are mad, absolute hammerings.

Yeah I agree with all of that, I just want to see some plan or cohesion football wise across the club, its not about signing players or out, although recruitment is terrible

If I knew they had a plan then I'd be happy to see it out.
So much for those promising Uruguayans Juan was supposed to be sourcing for us eh

He inherited an absolute shit show.
He's been here for 15/16 month

He's done well in some respects. Not so well in others. The 3 transfer windows since he's been here have been pretty poor.

I like the bloke and his intentions are good.

And yet Charlton were in a much worse state last season and went up

Some people will disbelieve because it's easier Marra.

I posted something that appeared on radio in Aus and it has been dismissed out of hand. It may well be wrong but you never know, the takeover rumour initially came from UAE i believe.

Mebbe there's no promising Uruguayans who want to come to a league 1 club?

I'm sure the ones we want to keep if we get up will want to and have the opportunity to sign a new deal at better terms for the level

True. Thats football for you. We were not a million miles away ourselves.

Didn't they start the season with pretty much the same squad as the season before? Genuine question as i'm not sure.
They didn't have enough players to till their bench, not sure on the players they did have there

One thing I remember reading was something about having to ration water or something at the training ground as they were in so much debt
