While I misspoke, I assure you that many would consider both my accounting and business acumen to be non-existent at the best of times.

The point still stands that all small businesses and organisations have bills to pay, some of which are to much larger businesses who have huge revenues and may even have huge profits. I assume that they don't expect energy companies to cover their bills just because of the disparity in the size of the respective businesses. While Sunderland may be able to forego the money, which clubs or businesses do you pick and choose? Or should we be benevolent to all? Perhaps give up our share of the cup monies to the smaller clubs we usually face too.

There are channels for a club like this to go through if they would like us to forego the money owed, and there are good people at the club who would ensure a fair hearing. Trying to publicly shame or embarrass us into doing so is both desperate and low. I hope the club ensure every penny is collected.
I thought you were a football man . And would understand the relationship between these villages and their clubs and the two big football clubs . It’s convention for the club not to take the gate money . It creates ill feeling . For nothing

How many fans of Sunderland or Newcastle knew before yesterday we always let the oppo keep the whole figure to themselves in this particular cup? I’ll wager it was nobody at all

Where’s the praise been for all the money waived across other ties over the years? Feels self indulgent

Has anyone started a go-fund-me page for Crook? Will donate a tenner if they do. Possibly even £10 (and fifty pence).

II bet their chairman wouldn't have even thanked us if we gave him our share.
I asked yesterday and surprised it still hasn't popped up yet though some of the comments in this thread show a wide range of opinions 😄 The article that the Tweet showed, the 1st tweet talks of them setting up a fund 🤪

If this was another League One team and a local team then I'm pretty sure we'd all be taking the piss outta them wanting a £700 payment. Crook play in the same league as Sunderland Ryhope CW but I guess we need the money for the transfer window.

He obviously thought contacting themag was a better option. And got them to make him sound like Crook's answer to Gore Vidal while they were on. Most urbane of men. Give me strength.
Not sure why Crook City are complaining publicly. Maybe the chairman of Crook Alexandra could contact the club directly.
Crook's chairman hasn't gone crying to The Mag and isn't complaining publicly, it's a bloke on that Mag site who wrote an article mentioning it. How he got to know, who knows but he's into his NE football. I don't think there's anywhere online/newspaper that says it and it's more word of mouth that has got out and been spread (which you'd expect) and somehow he's caught wind of it so hoyed an article online about it.

It came from a non league blog before the mag got hold of it

Since they like to be known as the Black Cats, it might be supposed lucky when Sunderland FC cross your path. Crook Town take a different view.
Town hosted Sunderland’s under-23 side on Wednesday in the Durham Challenge Cup, 534 spectators attracted to the Millfield. After the usual deductions, the balance was £1,421.
Frequently these days, the big boys waive their right to half of the gate on such occasions – as did Newcastle United when 1,300+ turned out at Ashington the evening previously.
No such luck with Sunderland. Crook this morning received a request for £710 (and fifty pence.) Club chairman Vince Kirkup, the most urbane of men, is angry.
“We have to work hard for every penny we get and they’re a multi-million pound club. I know they’re entitled to their cut but it’s become an accustomed and much appreciated gesture that the big clubs don’t take it. To be honest, I’m disgusted.”
The score? Oh aye. Crook Town 1 Sunderland 0.

It's very small time from Safc imho

Why did we have a food collection recently?
crook town fc is a business. the food collection wa not donated to a business.
I can't believe people are defending this tbh, tinted specs as usual.

It's an absolute disgrace.
f***ing hell, our owner now has to subsidse, a club shop, a first team sqaud, and a rival business, crook town fc.

Aye, sorry I wasn't clear as I've seen it's Mike Amos who said it and The Mag that has hoyed up the article quoting him.

How he came to know about it, who knows but some on here obviously think that the Crook chairman has gone crying to the press about it without knowing how the story originated when it's probably a 'leak' through word of mouth and might not have even been from the Chairman

Rival business ? Nowt against Crook but haway man, I'd expect a Mag to make a comment like that!:lol:

well did think as i wrote the word it wasnt quite right..but they are in the same indsutry as safc, albeit a much much smalelr entity in the same industry. safc need to think big, and that means acting big. Nestle dont waive money owed them by corner shops.

This isn't a shop, it's a football club. Would arsenal take it from tower hamlets if you want to 'think big'.

Its down to people like you and @Summerbee that the club is in this mess ffs.

arsenal make a profit every year. theyare run like a business, and when safc starts being run like a business, it might be as successful as them.

I understand the business side of things but this isn't a order for some fancy fake plants from some business down south. This is a local non league club that will have SAFC people throughout it, also within their fans and people living in Crook. How much is that £700 worth to their finances as I'd dare say it's a minute fraction of what it is for us.

Are we really that hard up we can't waive the £700 in support of a local club or else we can't buy players in the transfer window that will get us promoted? I hope this may be more of an oversight and SAFC will possibly do something about it (if it's true of course)

thats the point. SAFC under short was run on the vbasis that no one pays attention to the pennies because we are big and "have a billionaire owner"...now it needs to be run on the basis that we mind the pennies and the pounds will sort themselves. by playing crook town in that cap, we got them money they wouldnt have otherwise got...thats the ontribution to the local club
