SAFC play Scrooge

“And it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us!’’

Must be complimenting us calling us Scrooge 👍

My limited knowledge, my limited interest, and my limited memory, seems to remind me that the late father of Mr Kirkup was a journalist who reported on SAFC games, and was a SAFC supporter.( I'm going for Shields Gazette 1960's/70's )

Mr Kirkup himself has certainly had a lengthy, loving relationship with the sport of Association Football.

I have never met him - but he has certainly done his time!

Last para - if you MUST save time -

I can't imagine £700 goes too far for us, who knows.
A quick Google search of Vince Kirkup and Crook Town brings up no recent stories, where are the quotes from?
Mike Amos blog. He was a long serving Northern Echo reporter / columnist, Northern League chairman for 25 years. Comes from Shildon, supports Shildon and Arsenal. Not a Mag, but instinctively on the side of the smaller club.

As for the story, it's not a great look for SAFC - especially not for £700 which is basically chicken feed.

Supports Shildon and Arsenal, interesting choices.

Cutting through all the shit I suspect this has simply been an oversight by the club.
I think someone in the back room has simply not been aware of the usual procedure.
Vince is a good man who has worked tirelessly over the decades to literally keep clubs a like Crook Town afloat and previously Stanley United.
Maybe he shouldn’t have went public and should have tried to sort it out more low key.
I’m sure Sunderland will waive this.

We are skint
We had to lose staff during lockdown
There is an agreed % to be paid to away teams in cups
It is up to us to decline our share
It is not up to Crook to demand our share
We presumably had costs that evening such as the team coach
On Tuesday, Arsenal could decide not to take their gate share, that's up to them, KLD cannot demand this.

Subject over - I'm an SAFC fan that values the football pyramid, but SAFC come first

Since they like to be known as the Black Cats, it might be supposed lucky when Sunderland FC cross your path. Crook Town take a different view.
Town hosted Sunderland’s under-23 side on Wednesday in the Durham Challenge Cup, 534 spectators attracted to the Millfield. After the usual deductions, the balance was £1,421.
Frequently these days, the big boys waive their right to half of the gate on such occasions – as did Newcastle United when 1,300+ turned out at Ashington the evening previously.
No such luck with Sunderland. Crook this morning received a request for £710 (and fifty pence.) Club chairman Vince Kirkup, the most urbane of men, is angry.
“We have to work hard for every penny we get and they’re a multi-million pound club. I know they’re entitled to their cut but it’s become an accustomed and much appreciated gesture that the big clubs don’t take it. To be honest, I’m disgusted.”
The score? Oh aye. Crook Town 1 Sunderland 0.
So Fuck.

Send them a box of footballs in the post with no stamp on, that'll put a smile back on his face.
