SAFC - Fan Ban & Ticket Cancellations

You are absolutely mental if you think I deserve banning from home and away games if my mate passes his ticket on tomorrow
Of course you shouldn’t be banned, but if you were then there’s more tickets free for the newer fans who were busy with work during the league one days but are suddenly available to attend now. IMO I think that’s why there’s many who don’t have an issue with what’s happened to PH, means they have a better chance at tickets.

in the clubs mind maybe but unless you tell people then we aren’t mind readers. It’s just a complete mess by the club which could have been dealt with 100 times better.

This group are some of the loyalists fans we have and got screwed before the biggest game of the last 10 years. Statement by the club since has been vague and questionable with holes in it and since then even more mistakes have been made by the ticket office.

There was an easy simple way to solve it, send every season ticket holder and email saying this is now banned and from next season anyone found to be doing it will have their season ticket cancelled and banned for the season. Or say away tickets cancelled be sent to a mate but you don’t get the loyalty point so the ticket doesn’t go to waste. Now we will just have wasted tickets and annoyed fans, great work Sunderland.

So let’s use the branches when we are shite and skinny but ban them mom when we are in the top league, great business sense that as we will be relegated one day and be back begging those branches to help sell tickets for Swansea on a Tuesday night in January. Again you can’t just pick when a rule is worth having and then when you want to ignore it.

Indeed, it's a mess and should have been handled better.

I don't want people to think that me questioning where these branch tickets were going is me agreeing with the way the club have handled the situation. Far from it.

I think what a lot of people want to know is if these tickets have been getting into the hands of people less 'deserving' of them. I think it's a reasonable question, especially if it means others have beem missing out.

Nobody is doubting the lad's loyalty and commitment to the club, which is exceptional.

The way the branches ringfenced tickets work is something like this. The club sets aside 40 tickets for Phase 1. The branch supplies a list of account numbers. The club assigns one of those 40 tickets to each account. The crucial point here is that that allication by the club will most likely not take account of family/friendship groupings within those allocations. Prior to this season, the branch organiser would typically reallocate tickets to make sure friends/family are together. In the PL, that's a breach - the person using the ticket will not necessarily be the person named on it. In many cases, what looks like passing on a ticket is a simple reallocation of seats. The alternative is a sit where you want free for all. I've no doubt that some account numbers used are for SC holders who have no intention of going, but that's a different matter. I'd have no doubt, though, that the club will aggregate these is coming up with a "misused" percentage.

Exactly this and by SAFC2012’s own admission he feels that a substantial number of tickets are given away to the “wrong” person.

I know a father and son who have been to every away except Newcastle and Oxford this season on the proviso they travel on a certain bus. The tickets were not in their names. They have season tickets but no loyalty points.

This is massively widespread. It’s a big issue and it stops genuine fans in small groups or individuals build up their points and go to games because branches or ticket farmers have swept them all up for onward distribution.
Massively widespread (I don't disagree) but 1 person and 65 of his associates have been targeted and the rest of the branches have got off scot free. How's that fair?

All that was required was a meeting of all of the branches and new working practices to be outlined and agreed going forward. How hard is that?

The club must have a system in place to (even potentially) refund fans who have bought away tickets and can no longer attend. If they were very late returns or didn't sell (highly unlikely) there would be no refund. Again, not a hard process in the days of digital tickets.

Instead the club has acted like a dictatorship and sanctioned a bloke who was doing an amazing job for loyal fans of our club! Idiots.

You know the club could have avoided all of this ill feeling so easily.

Be clearer on your comms when you are changing custom and practice (see safc2012 being used by the club to move on tickets with no thought at all about the points tally of any people who may receive those tickets)

Use the information you possess to take an informed and proportionate decision in relation to any ticket misuse rather than treating everyone the same regardless of what info you have in front of you.

Set up a system which allows the return and resale of away tickets which is pragmatic and gives supporters some flexibility to recognise their changing circumstances.

That’s only 3 points which shouldn’t be beyond the wit of anyone the club employs in what is a major part of the club operations.

Yes things always going to be an emotive issue but they are making this loads more difficult than it needs to be

This isn’t the relevant part of it all though, it may be to you but that’s not the important element of all of this,

It's definitely a part of it, but like the whole RAWA debate going on, maybe not the most pertinent part.
A small small part of it all. The club has taken no responsibility for how it manages ticketing particularly away games, this is ALL on the club. Fact. It’s disgusting that one guy has been hauled over the coals and they should be throughly ashamed.

Where have I said you should get your season ticket taken off you or deserve banning?

If you're just gonna keep making things up to try and strengthen your argument then let's not bother.
Have u ever bought ti tickets for 120 fans .how could paul ever control if people pass the tickets on .what are fans supposed to do just lose the money .there is no way or legal way with the club to pass them on .after 5 weeks of comments on here u come on spouting shit on here.people know the full story now

That would not fit in with the agenda of many. Just because they are not providing hourly updates to message board users does not mean they are sitting on their hands.
Nobody is expecting hourly updates 😂

Their website hasn't been updated in 6 months. They issued a club statement and no real comment 18 days ago and then silence until today. Neither of those are acceptable in 2026 when it takes 2 minutes to post on X.

Been through it all mate, but rant away if it makes you feel better.

Just for context, @Things Change is a WUM account. He told me in a DM a couple of years back.

So it's probably best to just ignore what he posts as he's just trying to get bites from posters.
The other day he was referring to posts off about 5 years ago when he has only had an account since 2024.

My guess would be he's a disgruntled banned poster with a new account and he's shit stirring.

You have provided a massive free and reliable resource for travelling fans imo the club should be bending over backwards to make the new rules work for our away supporters.

How many time have the players and RLB Attributed an away win to the fans and their amazing support? Are the club happy that’s likely diminished?

George Forster will be turning in his grave 😡
You've tagged the wrong poster. The lad you're after has no gap in his username.
