SAFC - Fan Ban & Ticket Cancellations

Wrong.

Tell me you've never been to an away game wirth SAFC in league 1 without actually saying it.

I've absolutley no affiliation with the bloke whatsoever, earned my points myself.

But.

Those tickets went to people who would sing and shout and actually go to the games when we were down there. I hope the club have managed this sensibly and those that now have a ticket as a result - i would like to think that at 40 points they'll continue to support us in the championship away - should that ever happen again.

You're saying I've never been to away days in league one ? Bless you mate, you have no idea.

Seems like a bit of a harsh and sudden punishment to me. The club will argue that they have put out plenty notices and warnings about ID checks. Would have been better to have a conversation with them and tell them that the people using the ticket for Mags game MUST be the person who's ticket it is. So let the club know and cancel the rest that have been shifted on to third parties. Then an understanding that further games from all of these ID's will be pulled for checks. Seems overly harsh to be cancelling tickets for Mags away, for people who genuinely were using them themselves.

They used to get 2, then up to 10 if they paid for the extras - not sure if it's the same protocol.
If they’re using the tickets themselves there wouldn’t be an issue. The problem has been all season and in the past of people giving their ticket to others.

If games were going to General sale there probably would be less of an issue but not a single game will go down to GS now

and is that really a huge problem? To me, it’s fair enough. It’s always been that way and will be again when we inevitably end-up shite again.

We live in such a selfish society where people are outraged at the smallest things.
I don't really have any skin in this argument, but could you not argue it's also selfish someone taking a ticket from someone with the required points, just because they know someone who isn't using it but has the points to get a ticket anyway.

Obviously there's better ways to do it, like why not allow transfers to other accounts in your network, but just remove the loyalty point? Eventually that person won't be in the top X percent.

Like with most things customer service related these days, they've gone with the easiest option.

'I'm alright Jack'^^^

...so you've never, ever benefitted from someone else getting you a ticket?

No. Always got my away tickets using my own customer number. When I first started going I would sometimes miss out but its a fair system. Not sure why more don't try and build their own points up rather than someone else's but each to their own.

Only time I didn't use my own number was pre season 2021 after covid and we played Spennymoor and Hearts away, tickets were limited to their season ticket holders only, I got a ticket for those matches. Was impossible for any Sunderland fans to get tickets legitimately for those matches so had to do something else.

Pushed for time, can anyone kindly provide a brief summary of what's gone on...

Club have sanctioned someone for breaching their T&C's, and subsequently, 65 people have lost their ticket for Sunday - seemingly including a lot of genuine fans with the correct number of points but who have used said bloke to book them

But even then they may have been passed on a ticket from a relative or someone for certain games. It wasn’t an issue then.

I hate modern football

They might have, but could have gotten the ticket on their own account.

Personally I think the best way to get tickets is to build up your own points, might miss the odd match but long term it best way to do it. People can do what they prefer of course.

The fella has been doing this for years. Getting away tickets for his group on his group's ST. Maybe 10 didn't want to goto an away , so some exile mates in his group got them. So they all were together at matches. In the prem , those without the points or a ST to obtain an away ticket were fans he knew were regular away day goers in league one.
In league one the club used to get in touch with him to offer him extra tickets. The got in touch with him for him to see if he could help an Aussie fan over who was in the news. The club used him to help with away tickets.
He sorted out cheap trains for his group.

The prem league has now changed things. It's not acceptable and it's been dealt with.

This group - large amounts of them will be out of pocket as he sorted a vastly subsidised travel system. Many won't go to the aways, or as many.
When we are shite again, as we no doubt will be, and not selling out , which was a regular thing and will be again, these fans won't be there to bail the club out and support them when the new premier league fans have fucked off.

He has helped 100s of genuine fans over the years and shouldn't be villified. The games changed and he didn't change with it. But those he helped were all long term fans. All here in league one.
Exactly this

I fully agree mate. I just think this has been dealt with really badly. Not for the first time with that ticket office, either.

You seem to know who he is? No one’s actually stated who he was or what unofficial branch e was from? Or have I missed that

Practically everyone i know has benefitted from starting off with someone helping them out...that's what made our fanbase special...looking out for one another....shame that has bypassed some of our fans nowadays. I've been going since 1986 and it has never been an issue until this season.

I'll add this.
A poster on here who has looked after countless fans, has been royally shit on by the club.
He has helped people in the bad times supporting SAFC and now he's toast.
Another shit thing about the Premier league who want a certain demographic of fan...and their money.
What demographic is that? One with 40+ loyalty points?

Don't need anymore family and friends in the away ends by the way. Feel like the amount in away ends this year is up considerably. And it hasn't helped the atmosphere away from home.
It's been the same at home too. I sit right next to where they sit in the West Stand and they take the piss with just standing in the aisle blocking views and waltzing in 10 mins after kick off/HT

Fair enough, though my personal experience is different.

Agree it has never been an issue until this season regarding tickets.

100% this. Club have u-turned regarding their treatment of said fan and hung him out to dry. Helped many fans out throughout our years in L1 and the Championship.
