Sacking Bruce

The football under Bruce was no worse than under any other recent manager. Faint praise I realise.

When he got it right, the football under him was very good to watch at times. The Chelsea away game, Spurs 3-1 at home and the home draws with Arsenal and Man United in the 2010/11 season spring to mind straight away.

However, with the amount of times where we'd follow up a really good performance at home playing good football, followed up by long-ball garbage resulting in defeats away from home with barely a whimper suggests that he didn't really have that much of a clue tactically, seems to be very much from the Harry Redknapp "Forget tactics, just go out and play" school of thought.

If we hadn't of sacked Bruce

we'd have still let's say, signed Gomez and Jones...

£6 million each on £40,000 each or something daft like that.

Tbh he produced the best season we've had in the PL since we got back promoted.

Had he signed better players to replace the key players he sold (Bent, Jones, Henderson, Gyan, Cana, Steed) etc, he'd probably still be manager.

He didn't and it cost him his job, end of.

I know it was a close shave, but last season's been my favourite so far.

Love Bruce me, wish him well and pleased to see him doing well at Hull and is building a half decent team there. As it stands, their XI is better than ours. Think he should have got longer here, but happy with Gus.

We are going down this season partially due to Bruce, he has to take a portion of the blame because we haven't been able to get rid of some of the players he signed in his last summer here

Obviously he left a while ago so it's only a small portion, others need to take plenty of blame as well. Bruce is just another name on a long list of people that haven't done well enough at SAFC in recent times

I'm also biased against him as I couldn't stand the fat bastard

Sorry pal :) but have missed the Nostradamus' bashing of the back end of last season & this thread has brought it all back again ;)

I was at the west ham game at the end of the season they were down and we won, other results meant we were 10th but could have easily been 17th.........anybody who pays 6 million for gardner deserves ridicule...............his results meant he deserved the sack its as simple as that but his mediocre buys were his biggest failure with far reaching effects and are only now being flushed out of the team..........they also effected oneils reign..........ultimately he was poor for us..... but it is the way he blames the geordie thing to hide his abstract failure and lack of backbone as he should have walked when they sold bent and gyan from under him!Its this that made me lose any respect for him as a manager.

I never get how someone in professional sports has so little regard for his own personal health.
