My first choice would be Trott, he's got the experience and done a good job in the white ball stuff with Afghanistan. If it's Flintoff as reported that's going to be a massive underwhelming appointment.
 
Can’t see the the logic in a Flintoff appointment, wouldn’t dream of criticising his past playing ability, and I certainly have sympathy for him after his recent horrific accident, but to get the white ball job for England, nah not for me.

Morgan might change his mind now a vacancy is open, i think his answer was he was respecting someone currently in that job.

They'll ask him again if he does Hundred commentary today or tomorrow

And he will give the same answer I’d have thought. Still not sure I believe him mind. For what it’s worth it’s surely odds on it’s Key’s best mate who gets the job though.
 
Good luck to him in wherever he goes next. Just wasn't the right hire by key in the first place as managing Australia women (one of the best teams ever in the woman's game, granted with less competition) to managing England's men was too steep and not transferable. Same as a I wouldn't want Lewis to be given it based on England women's performance. I quite like the idea of someone like ponting but doubt he would take it

Sangakarra being mentioned often, pretty sure he lives in the UK, well respected as a player and coach around the world. Wouldn’t be the worst.
 
Daggers reckons they'll go with someone with not much experience as a Head Coach just like they did with McCullum

And they will look at how Flintoff does in The Hundred as Trescothick is taking the games this year and no rush to appoint someone

Regular readers of the politics forum will know that I’m a bleeding heart liberal, I’m also a very keen viewer of American sports so I know all about the Rooney Rule (no, nothing to do with Wayne) - but this decision seems to me like a completely unnecessary and ridiculous exercise.

In the NFL, where the rule originated, the percentage of black players to white is currently around 53%, whilst NFL head coaches make up less than 20%. It makes total sense to attempt to get more representation into top coaching jobs for BAME communities in the NFL, there’s a fairly staggering difference, which was a hell of a lot worse when the rule was first brought in.

Domestic cricket however, must be about 95% (probably higher) white. I’m all for equal opportunities, but this seems overly compensatory of a problem that doesn’t really exist.
