He doesn't need to talk of denazification if he gets Ukraine to disarm its military. He can come back anytime he wants then to complete the job.

You can't trust any agreement he will make.

I hate to sound this blase, but why not? We've allowed that plenty of times before, including Stalin overrunning half of Europe.

Look, there's "it's hard to swallow" and there's "can't." This one is hard to swallow, but it's not a "can't."
 
Appeasement is unthinkable, IMO.
Why should a nation give up sovereignty and freedom to a genocidal bully? It might give the Ukrainians some temporary semblance of peace, but long term? Not a chance.
The Russian army is murdering unarmed civilians. Should Putin be sent the message that he gets what he wants if he indulges in a bit of invasion and crimes against humanity?

The Ukrainian people have chosen to take up arms and fight to the death for their freedom. They’re doing a damn fine job of taking on the Russians. If they give Putin even a slice of what he wants, it’d be like pissing on the graves of those incredible people who’ve died for their country.

Fuck appeasement, fuck Putin. He has to be stopped. Giving in to the demands of a mental, murderous despot, with nothing to lose if rumours about his health are true, would be an absolute disaster that will cause untold bloodshed in the future, IMO. If we want to live in a free world, we cannot allow leaders like Putin to exist.

Don’t think I will ever be proud to be British again if we just let Putin have his way.

The world is a much smaller place these days, as we have all found out, what happens in another part of the world can effect us, we need to stand strong with the brave people of Ukraine.

I don't think anyone's just letting Putin have his way. That was my fear a week ago. The question now is how much further you're willing to go. The economic sanctions are already going to turn Russia back to the USSR circa 1985 in a matter of months.

One of the side effects of this invasion is that it makes you reflect on who are the ‘good guys’ in world politics.

Obviously everyone needs to protect their interests but even some of the ‘democracies’ are led by arseholes.

Now I can appreciate what the rest of the world are thinking of the U.K.

Not at all mate. We CAN bring Russia to the brink of defaulting on debt and impoverishment but by then they'll have bombed Ukraine back to the dark ages. We can't confront them in Ukraine so it's either prolong the agony or try to find a diplomatic way out where no-one gets everything they want but they all get something they can live with.

Yes, it was. That was pretty much a literal "can't" - as in, couldn't have stopped him short of where they did. But it didn't lead to an unceasing wave of Soviet expansionism.

Then you'll need UK and probably US troops to do that. The latter ain't gonna happen. And you'd be fighting a direct war against Russian troops. At that point, you're not fighting only in Ukraine. There would be zero reason Russia would not retaliate by attacking UK interests elsewhere.
