Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

100% correct. Cracking bit of business to get so much especially for someone who's had 2 very serious injuries.

If I was the club I wouldn't be doing business with Ross Stewart's agent again. Seems like a greedy knacker who was desperate for a big pay day.

Naturally I think he just wanted assurances that his client would have a contract in the long term if he got injured again. Likely also wanted a larger wage given his importance to the team when he's fit. If Stewart was fit and forced a move it'd be a different story like, but it seems he just wanted to cover himself incase of further injury.

I can see both sides - SAFC don't want him on big wages long term because of his injury record, Stewart wants the opposite for the same reasons.

£10m is a good fee considering, Stewarts got the contract he wants, and Southampton have potentially got a really good player. Win, win, win.

Michu, Papiss Cisse looked like absolute world-class strikers at a higher level. Been more over the years in the prem.

Just look at a more recent example in Chuba Akpom at Boro first good season he's had in his career

I'm not even sure Stewart will start for Southampton anyway. So I think this will be a moot point. He's definitely gone for more money, he'd have been first choice here.

I agree marra but @Hulkenburger pretty much answered what I think

It’s because they haven’t paid attention to him before. A fit Stewart is far better than Adams imo
I’m not a Che Adams fan myself, but to date there’s no real evidence for that statement. I guess we’ll see over the course of the season. Personally I think that if the Che Adams deal does fall through and he stays at Southampton, then he’ll score more goals than Stewart.

My best mate is a Southampton fan, he doesn’t understand why they are chasing away one 27 year old who has scored goals in PL, and throwing £12m in for another 27 who has only played a handful of Championship games. He thinks it’s all about balancing the books on wages.
Maybe right, but they can afford to sign a bunch of players on 20k-ish a week from their main rivals in the league. They've already sold a couple of high earners, so stripping out the talent from the top of the Championship is probably their evil goal

Its a considerable risk. He's currently not fit, and has had 2 serious injuries in the last year. He was also injured when we signed him. He missed a chunk of that season, split between between Ross County and Sunderland.

These are all muscular/ligament tears and breakdowns as well, they're not contact injuries. They're over-use/conditioning injuries, that's much more of a concern. I mean for goodness sake he demolished a quad just kicking a ball in a warm up.

True, just think Adams is beyond average. A fit Stewart outscores him every season imo

Okay so I’ve been at work all day and there’s no fuckjng chance one readythrough 100pages for updates. Please can someone let me know what’s happening?

Is the transfer going ahead still or has it hit the bricks?

It’s like buying a car off Delboy

Sometimes it’s perception based on standard of the league. The two players are almost identical ages - Stewart is 2 days older. Over the past 7 seasons Adams has played 243 Premier League / Championship games, Stewart has played 13 in the same period. The standards of football that you have been watching them play in have been very different, no?
Wasnt Stewart’s goal scoring record fairly average before coming to sunderland?
Yes. 1 in 4 in Scottish football.

i know stewart's gone. no idea about anyone else apart from i think we've signed a striker but don't know what he's called or if he's any good.
tbh i hate this transfer window carry on. folk get carried away and imo it's the agents who have brought it all about to screw more money out of the clubs.

And not top flight Scottish football.

Don’t get me wrong I like him and he’s a decent player.

Reading it wouldn't help you. It was on, then it was off, now we think it might be on, or off. Nobody knows.
