Russell Martin has Ross Stewart as his main target **Transfer confirmed **

Do you think they’re adequate replacements and do you think that full season of championship development will result in an improved season for us this campaign?

Time will tell. I think expecting the same level of season as last time out is a big ask - we massively outperformed expectations, and the second season is generally tougher.

That’s modern football I suppose. Players leaving for more money at the likes of Southampton.

Don’t blame him if he takes the extra coin. However, we’ll be the biggest club he plays for (unless he goes to one the old firm) and plays in a poorer league.
Same as Darren Bent for me, except
This has been dragging on for years

Only people we should boo are the owners. Stewart left because our club would not offer him his fair market wages, he's one of the best strikers in the division easily. His move proves he was correct in his assessment of his value. Don't know why people are happy we got 8m, that's not our money and our owners ain't going to spend all of it on a replacement, I'd be surprised if we spend more than 2m on a player.

When fit, he's been our best player. Southampton will be able to give him 4yrs + on mega money compared to what we'd have been offering him.

Great player, seems a good lad. If he goes, we should applaud on his return.

Spot on. We owe him a lot more than he owes us. No brainier for him to go there, earn what he’s worth and have a chance at the prem.

Also worth mentioning that this profit - and all the goals he scored whilst he was here - are a feather in the cap of LEE JOHNSON.

Our recruitment team had fuck all to do with identifying Stewart. Johnson was aware of him and had watched him play before he arrived at SAFC.
Interesting, nowt to do with Neil or Mowbray but all the goals are a result of Johnson. He should get the transfer fee.

I reckon Brian McDermott probably played a bigger role than Johnson, what with him being the scout.

Is nobody bothered what players bring to the team on the pitch anymore?Who gives a fuck if he is worth nowt after 3 years if he has fired us to the prem.
If , were in the process of a consolidated build, it may well involve sacrifice on the pitch short term , no way were we going up this year even with Stewart . If Cannon and the kid come through we'll be well set for them long term in the Prem when we get there . Ross would be finished

Why do you think we weren't going up with Stewart?

Indeed. And that’s where Speakman’s comments about improvement were always going to be put under the microscope. Because if the club expect progress and an improvement on last season whilst seeing our two leading scorers and arguably best players depart without financing adequate replacements then they’re on another planet.

They have 24 hours to do that now despite knowing Amad was away and Stewart was likely to depart after not signing a new deal. That is cutting things incredibly fine and doesn’t reassure me about succession planning at all. Under previous regimes, any business we do tomorrow would be labelled panic buying.

I don't respect the view that "it's a short career". Playing top level, or near that level, isn't like working down a mine, FFS! You don't become an invalid after - I'll go to near a short level - playing 12 years of pro football. Especially not in the 21st Century. I estimate Stewart will be mildly comfortable after he retires from pro football.

How much do you think Stewart might have been paid over such a length of time? What do you think his 4 year deal at Southampton nets him?

Don't start me on that rainbow turncoat Henderson, and how he couldn't possibly turn down the opportunity to provide for the "next 3 or 4 generations" of his family! When TF did that ever become a justification?

Oh yeah, when it was ex-footballers as pundits excusing pure, pure greed.

I'm a greedy unprincipled bastard who only cares what my snout in the trough can shovel into my gob, and I know you are too.

Do you think we would've went up last season had Ross Stewart stayed fit?
