Running Thread 2026

Class be grabbing mine then, shame the match doesn't kick off til 3pm might've been tempted to make a day of it
I've taken the day off the next day as last year I may have had a couple too many 😂
Has anyone seen the news about Rachel Entrekin who not only won the Cocodona 250 race which is 250 miles with crazy climbs too

she finished in a new course record of 56 hours, 9 minutes, and 48 seconds, beating all the men too.

Absolutely ridiculous, god knows how you can put your body through that , watching videos and she never even seems to look tired , and better then me after a 10k

Aye dunno if you've ever seen that Andy Glaze fella but he does all those big races, ridiculous like what they go through but also the training you have to do to be able to do it in the first place.

Think there's a lot of research that suggests women actually start to outperform men in the ultra ultra long distances (200miles+)

No I haven't but will look him up , my social media got flooded with clips of that 250 race and that's why I saw her

It's unbelievable what some people can put bodies through

I can't remember if I saw it discussed on here or on FB. But has anyone tried Decathlons own make running shoes (kiprun is one of them I think)? I'm due a new pair and have been thinking about trying some, just wondering if they're worth trying?
Aye the 10k record holder wears them and Supwell went over to see them made. They’ve come along way from what they used to be apparently and are positioning themselves very well in the market now. Previously it was just cheap tat, but not now.

Check out Yowana/Supwell review on YouTube

I've got a pair of kiprun and really light , but don't think I would want to be running long distances in them

Think a perfect 10k shoe

Any regular parkrunners on here do the one at Chester Le Street?

What’s the course like? Is it a busy one? Elevation pretty flat?

Very very flat so it gets really busy. Personally I'm not keen on it, because it's so busy the paths are quite narrow and the first lap gets congested. I always find a 3 lapper a bit boring as well

Very popular, very flat but these two added up means that (unless you're at the front) it's hard to get much pace going for the first lap.

Also, judging by the Facebook group there often seems to be a bit aggro there (as in people getting frustrated at "slow" runners, or other stuff). I don't do it that often, so don't have personal experience of it, but the FB gives the impression it's a bit spicier than the likes of Herrington.

Mate is down from Scotland, and wants a light 5mile trail to do which leads straight into a Parkrun on Saturday (I'll do it with him). He's training for the WHW so wants his run to be at least somewhat appropriate.

Plan was to do some of the Penshaw 10k route then finish with Herra Parkrun, but it's cancelled. Anybody got any decent suggestions for any of the NE ones?

Flat, apart from a slight incline from river to the cafe bit. Very busy.

I like it but others have found issues with it that I haven’t been subjected to (yet). Good atmosphere, very good Marshalls and a canny route (albeit a lapped one).

Question for all - in heading to Sandy Bay this weekend and was going to try doing the Ashington or Newbiggin parkrun on Saturday. Anybody done either and have any experience of what the tracks are like? Parking, coffee shop after etc. any advice would be appreciated

Elemore is meant to be canny. Plenty to do around there too

Done it about 15 times so far. As people have said it’s busy at the start but it thins out soon enough. I haven’t done other park runs to compare it with yet but think it’s alright.

Flat 3 laps and very busy

Just run around Penshaw instead, unless parkrun is a must?

What's WHW?
Who's doing the Sunderland runs at the weekend?

I'm in for the HM and know it'll be a struggle due to me doing zero long runs for it

Could just run around Penshaw, just rarely get opportunity to get a Parkrun in so would have been canny to include it. Will only be a slow one as, aye, I'm doing the Sunderland 10k Sunday. Won't be anything flash like, at a 40th birthday party on Saturday night so won't be optimal!

And WHW = West Highland Way, ridiculous trail route round Scotland, doing it mid June I think. Sounds brutal.

^^^ this not a patch on Herrington but decent if going for a PB and you can make it to the first bend before it bottle necks too badly, much crapper atmosphere than herrington

Also theres a park run at Hetton and SIlksworth I think (?) never done them

Plenty trails along the riverside to get a steady 5 miles in. Shame Lambtons is closed this weekend for a shoot or you could have ran around there, well worth a look around if you've not been in.
Not a fan of these crazy ultra ultra trail races, but I bet the scenery is stunning.

Good luck for Sunday mate, I'm going to have a few beers Saturday night too, can't make me run any worse than I know I already will 😀

Silky is ok for about 4.5k 😀
Nice downhill start and then mostly flat out to the lake for a couple of laps and back to the start. Except getting back to the start involves a little incline and it's a bit of a bastard

Aye Lambton was another idea if I sacked off Parkrun, didn't realise it was closed 🙈. I'll have a look about cheers.

And aye, good luck for Sunday yourself. Always love the Sunderland runs, great events. Wanna give the HM a go next year.

And agree about Silky like. Always on for a PB after 4k then miles off by the end
